Baldur’s Gate 3 is an RPG that’s more focused on exploring the amazing fantasy realm, and in this journey, you’ve got the company of many good companions. Along the way, you’ll stumble upon all sorts of secrets, tricky puzzles, and challenges that’ll put your skills to the test. One such challenge is the BG3’s Pin Slot puzzle in Jaheira’s Hideout. It’s a hidden spot packed with awesome loot and some interesting details of Harper leader, Jaheira’s past. This guide will explain how to solve the BG3 Pin Slot puzzle and unlock the great rewards in Hideout.
How to Solve the Pin Slot Puzzle in Baldur’s Gate 3 (BG3)
Jaheira is a good and reliable Baldur’s Gate 3 companion you can team up with. She’s a half-elf druid with a deep connection to nature and animals, and a past shrouded in mystery. If you want to know about her secrets, you’ve got to check out her home in Lower City during Act 3, where you’ll find the Pin Slot puzzle that leads to her secret hideout (it’s the underground area below the house) and it’s a must to solve it for the access.
To go to her house, it’s located in the southwestern part of the Lower City with the name Elerrathin’s Home on the map. You can see on the map it’s near the Baldur’s Gate waypoint (fast travel point). You need to bring Jaheira with you when going to her house. Once you enter, there will be a good ‘family feud’ show to watch for a while as her children (they are many but adopted) are not happy with her because she left them alone.
After this family reunion and some disturbance, your first step to solve the Pin Slot puzzle is to head into Jaheira’s Study, which is on the house’s rear near the desk. Right after getting into her study room, you’ll spot a table decked out with a book, a candle, and an empty pin slot. That pin slot is your source to revealing her Hideout, but you’ll need a special item ‘Harp-shaped Pin‘ to unlock it.
Finding the Harp-Shaped Pin
Go to the top upper floor of the home and that’s where you meet little boy Tate, one of Jaheira’s kids; he’s there on the second floor in his room. In her absence, he has become a little thief and secretly enters her Hideout and steals things.
If Jaheira is at your party, have a chat with Tate, and he’ll hand over the Harp-shaped Pin after a quick conversation. If Jaheira’s not with you, no sweat – you’ll just have to flex your Persuasive skills or, you know, steal it without asking (I mean pickpocket approach). But it’s not necessary to forcefully get it as the young boy will himself hand it over to his mom.
After obtaining the pin, head back to that study and enter the Harp-shaped Pin into the slot. This will reveal a secret passage that leads to the hideout. Even though there are traps inside the hideout, you don’t need to worry as Jaheira will disable them so it’s important to keep her with you once going inside. Otherwise, keep your eyes peeled and be ready to use your perception and thievery skills to dodge or disarm those sneaky traps.
Inside Jaheira’s Hideout
After accessing the Jaheira’s Hideout, you will see the place is a lush, serene spot, full of plants and critters. You can even chat with some of the animals with the Speak to Animals spell, like the Postmaster Badger, to get the lowdown on Jaheira’s past. But let’s talk loot which is our main focus – because there are some very valuable items to obtain:
- Belm: This rare Scimitar is a real gem, deals 5~10 Weapon Damage, and adds a +1 bonus to your attack and damage rolls. If you are an old fan of the Baldur’s Gate franchise, you may have already used it in the previous games.
- Staff of the Ram: It’s a +2 Quarterstaff that deals 3~10 Weapon Damage. On a hit, it allows you to knock or stun the enemies.
- Khalid’s Gift: This amulet is a lifesaver for Jaheira, keeping her curse-free and granting her the Aid Level 3 Abjuration spell to boost an ally’s hit points and AC. This necklace is close to her heart as it was a gift from Jaheira’s husband.
To get these items, you need to open the Opulent Chest and the Display Case. You’ll need a Thieves’ Tool or a key, which can be found hidden in some Loose Planks near the chest. But be careful – there’s a trap that could go boom if you mess up. But even if things get explosive, you can still grab the key.
