Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 has many random encounters after fast travel between locations that can throw anything from a harmless traveler to a deadly ambush your way. But one of the more interesting situations comes from Riddler Barley, a strange NPC who will challenge you to solve riddles in exchange for a reward.
At first, Barley is only testing the waters with light brain teasers. But as you meet him again, the riddles get complex, and he starts demanding a wager before you can answer. If you’re struggling to crack his questions, don’t worry—I’ve got all the answers right here. Here are all of Riddler Barley’s riddles in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 and their answers to walk away with extra Groschen or a permanent skill buff.
Where to Find Riddler Barley in KCD 2
Barley is not easy to find because he appears randomly during fast travel. There’s no fixed location where you can meet him—he shows up on the road between towns in both the Kuttenberg and Trosky regions.
The best way to find him is to keep fast traveling across long distances. Eventually, luck will be on your side, and you’ll spot him standing by the roadside, ready to throw a riddle your way. Each time you encounter him, he’ll ask a single riddle, so if you want to answer them all, you’ll need to run into him multiple times.
All Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 Riddler Barley Riddle Answers
First Riddle Answer
- Question: What belongs to you alone, but is used more often by others?
- Answer: My name.
Barley starts off easy with this classic riddle. While the other answer choices might seem tempting, this one makes the most sense—your name is yours, but other people say it more than you do.
- Reward: 150 Groschen or a Skill buff (recommended for long-term benefits)
Second Riddle Answer
- Question: Once upon a time there was a fool of a farmer. Family he had none, no stable boys either, so he talked to his animals instead. And, good man that he was, whenever he made a Groschen or two, he shared it with them according to his own rules. Every hen in the coop was paid five Groschen, every bee in the hive 15, and the spider in the loft bagged a full twenty Groschen. And now you tell me, how much did the cat get?
- Answer: 10 Groschen.
This one is a math-based riddle. The trick is realizing that the farmer pays animals based on how many legs they have:
- Hens (2 legs) = 5 Groschen (which means 2.5 Groschen per leg)
- Bees (6 legs) = 15 Groschen
- Spiders (8 legs) = 20 Groschen
- Cats (4 legs) = 10 Groschen
Before you can answer, Barley will require a 100 Groschen wager, but if you get it right, you’ll win it back along with some extra rewards.
- Reward: 200 Groschen or a Skill buff
Third Riddle Answer
- Riddle: Jaromir the coachman hailed from Raborsch. One morning, he set off for Kuttenberg with an empty coach. Three lads boarded in Bohunowitz. When he arrived in Bojischt, one of the boys got out and a washerwoman took his place. In Horschan, the washerwoman went on her way and a pedlar and his daughter boarded. In Pschitoky, the remaining lads alighted and took the peddler’s daughter with them. And straight away, two fishermen got in. And on reaching Kuttenberg that evening, they invited the coachman to the bathhouse and got pig-drunk. And now you tell me, what was the coachman’s name?
- Answer: Jaromir.
It’s a memory test, the answer is right there in the first sentence: the coachman’s name is Jaromir. If you skip dialogue, this one will catch you off guard. To attempt this riddle, you’ll need to wager 150 Groschen, but as always, you’ll get it back with a little extra if you answer correctly.
- Reward: 300 Groschen or a Skill buff
Fourth Riddle Answer
- Riddle: A bailiff has twelve men join up for service one day. The bailiff was glad, but soon discovered that he didn’t have enough gear for them in the armory. So those twelve men filed onto the square for the next morning’s roll call. Six of them were wearing body armor, four had helmets. Only three of them wore both a helmet and body armor. Now, tell me, how many men were unlucky enough not to have either a helmet or armor?
- Answer: Five.
This is another math-based question. Let’s break it down:
- Total men = 12
- Six had armor
- Four had helmets
- Three had both
Using simple subtraction, we can figure out that seven men had at least one piece of gear. That leaves five men with nothing. Again, you’ll need to bet 150 Groschen before you can answer, but a correct response earns you a solid reward.
- Reward: 300 Groschen or a Skill buff
Should You Choose Money or a Skill Buff?
Every time you answer a riddle correctly, Barley allows you to pick between Groschen (money) or Knowledge (a skill boost). So, which one should you take? If you require money, choosing Groschen across all encounters will net you a total of 550 Groschen. The currency is important to buy gear or weapons, upgrade Henry’s horse, or bribe NPCs.
To improve Henry’s skills, opting for Knowledge will permanently boost a random Skill such as Strength, Speech, or Reading. It’s better for the long run, especially in late-game stages where grinding skill XP takes longer. Take the skill buff whenever possible. Money is easier to earn in-game, but skill buffs are permanent and can give you an edge in combat, persuasion, and other activities.
