Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 Dragon’s Lair Walkthrough: Where to Find Dragon Bones

KCD 2 Dragon’s Lair quest guide and where to find the dragon bones.

The Dragon’s Lair quest in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 is one of the side quests. Instead of slaying a fire-breathing beast, you need to hunt down a set of so-called dragon bones, deal with a few characters, and make a decision about what to do with the bones. This guide is a complete walkthrough of how to start the quest, where to find the dragon bones, and the possible outcomes based on your choices.

How to Complete the Dragon’s Lair Quest in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2

To begin the Dragon’s Lair quest, you’ll need to head over to Bylany, a small village in the Kuttenberg region. Once there, find Monk Slava who can be found usually under a tree sitting on a bench, or walking around the area. Talk to him, agree to help him and then he will tell you about some bones that may—or may not—belong to a dragon.

Quest Overview:

  • Must have completed Main Quest 14: Speak of the Devil
  • Available in Kuttenberg region > Bylany
  • Rewards: 275 Groschen (if you sell the bones to Gerhard)
  • Multiple possible endings depending on your choice about the bones

Slava wants the bones to be destroyed, fearing that they could be used for some dangerous purpose. Naturally, it falls to you to dig them up and decide what to do with them.

Deliver the Message to the Abbot

Delivered Slava's message and talking to the Abbot in KCD 2

Slava asks you to deliver a message about this dragon’s lair and bones to the Abbot in a small church outside Kuttenberg. Heading there will put in an argument between Abbot and Gerhard, a character talking to Abbot who has ambitions of his own.

The Abbot wants the bones destroyed to prevent “heresy” (or maybe to avoid public hysteria). Gerhard, on the other hand, wants the bones for King Sigismund. After the Abbot dismisses you, Gerhard approaches you privately and makes you an offer—bring him the bones, and he’ll pay you a lot for it (that’s the only reward you get in this side quest). You can pretend to agree or keep this in mind as an alternative option later.

Return to Slava and Encounter Leopold

Alchemist Leopold - Kingdom Come Deliverance 2

After talking to Gerhard, return to Slava and deliver Abbot’s message about destroying the bones. The monk will agree with it and tell you to look for a Woodcutter who knows something about these bones. Right when you are having the conversation, a cutscene triggers which shows the arrival of Alchemist Leopold, another interested party. He has hired some bruisers and is also looking for the bones. During the conversation, you have a few ways to deal with him:

  • Pass a Very High Persuasion or Presence check → He’ll leave you alone.
  • Fail the check with happens often → His men will pick a fight, and you’ll need to beat them up.
  • Draw your weapon → They’ll back off immediately.

Talk to Woodcutter Vashek to Get Dragon Bones Location

Talking to Woodcutter Vashek to get info about dragon bones

Go to woodcutter Vashek and talk to him to get intel about the bones. He isn’t happy to talk about them as many come to him asking the same thing. However, you can convince him by passing a Speech check or paying him 200 Groschen. Once convinced, Vashek gives you a few vague directions about where he found those bones and the location you need to visit.

Go to the Woodcutter’s Camp southwest of Bylany and follow the stream west toward Rabstein. At the ford, follow the left creek upstream. Look for a large tree stump with mushrooms and walk through the bushes. Find an old hunting hide near some fallen trees. At this point, Henry might start making comments about the surroundings. Look for boulders/rocks on a slope, and head left to find the dig site where the dragon bones are available. But remember, there is a timer to follow—if you take too long, someone else may dig up the bones before you.

Dig Up the Bones

Once on the correct spot, use a spade to dig up the bones. Before you leave after collecting dragon bones, Leopold and his thugs will show up again—this time, they’re not alone. Gerhard’s mercenaries will arrive on the scene, turning the situation into a three-way standoff.

What to Do with the Dragon Bones in KCD 2?

With three parties after the same thing, you have different choices and what happens next depends entirely on how you want to handle things. If you return to Monk Slava in Bylany and hand over the dragon bones, he will take them and ensure they’re destroyed, preventing them from falling into the “wrong hands” (whoever that may be). You won’t get any Groschen for your troubles, but you gain a reputation with the church. You can either give him all the bones or only hand him a single one. Even though it will anger him a bit but the quest will be completed.

To earn a good sum of money, you can take the bones to Gerhard, who can be found near Kuttenberg or at a local inn. Giving them to him earns you 275 Groschen. But the monk and the church will not be happy with you this way—helping Gerhard isn’t the noble thing to do unless you only care about money or reward. Maybe, you can pass a Hard Speech check to give only a portion to Slava and give the rest to Gerhard to convince both parties with a quest conclusion and rewards in hand.

Dragon Bones choice in KCD 2

Giving bones to Leopold on the dig spot will result in immediate failure of the Dragon’s Lair quest – so it is better not to do it. The best case is to let the tension increase on party arrivals so the fight gets started. By passing a successful High Speech check in the mid-fight, you convince both groups to take only one bone each and leave peacefully. The other way is to fight and kill all of them. It will not be easy to deal with so many of them but if you win, you will keep all the dragon bones. If the fight starts, kill the weaker enemies first with quick attacks and use Master Strikes to counter stronger foes. If you have Mutt, let him assist in taking down enemies. After leaving the area with the bones, you can deliver them to the monk as mentioned above to end Dragon’s Lair in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2.
