Where to Find the Red9 in Resident Evil 4 Remake

If you have played the original Resident Evil 4, you have known the power of the Red9 handgun.

Red9 is one of the most iconic handguns in Resident Evil history. This old-school, bolt-action weapon is not only a fan favorite for its vintage Mauser element and weirdly satisfying stock attachment. It slaps when it comes to raw power. There’s no shortage of solid pistols in Resident Evil 4 Remake. But the Red9 is unique in style, and with good power. It dishes out the highest base damage among handguns, especially once you upgrade it. The recoil’s a little wild, though, and we’ll talk about how to tame that later with the stock.

In the original Resident Evil 4, you could stroll up to the Merchant and buy it like any other gun. But it’s not the same anymore in the remake. Now, you’ll have to find and earn it, specifically after the lake boss fight with Del Lago. If you don’t know where to find Red9, whether it’s worth the effort, or how to max out its true potential, this guide has you covered.

Where to Get the Red9 in Resident Evil 4 Remake

You will not be able to get the Resident Evil 4 Remake Red9 until you reach Chapter 4, and it can be a tough job for you to find it if you don’t know about the Red9 location. After the harpoon fight in Chapter 3 where you kill Del Lago (the Giant Lake monster), you’ll get access to the boat. That’s when the lake opens up as a new exploration zone.

Resident Evil 4 Red9 Map Location

Look at your map and move toward the shipwreck right in the middle of the lake. It’s easy to miss if you don’t pay attention; it’s an old, broken boat surrounded by debris. Pull up to the left side of the wreck to get a prompt to board. Inside, you’ll find a few goodies, including some treasure. Head toward the bow of the boat to find a blue chest containing the Red9.

If you’ve bought the Village Treasure Map from the Merchant using Spinels, this chest will be marked, making it even easier to find.

If you haven’t obtained it in Chapter 4, the Merchant will sell it later. It first appears for sale in Chapter 5 or 6 after rescuing Ashley. On the first travel to the merchant, it goes for a discounted 9,800 pesetas, but the price jumps to 14,000 after that. So, get it early if you can. The Red9 hits very hard, but its recoil is nasty. Without stock equipped, you’ll be wasting ammo and struggling to land consistent headshots. You can’t get it right away, so to unlock it. Progress to after the house stand-off with Luis.

After that sequence, the Merchant adds the stock to his “Trade” section. It requires 9 Spinels to obtain it, so do the blue medallion side quests or trade for treasure maps to rack them up. With the stock equipped, the Red9 is a great weapon with high precision to pop Ganado heads and stagger elites in RE4 Remake. The Red9 takes up 6 squares (2×3) in your case, and the stock adds even more, so make sure to manage your space.
