Baldur’s Gate 3‘s Duellist’s Prerogative is a legendary rapier that you can obtain by completing the Save Vanra side quest in Act 3 of the game. This weapon has a unique enchantment that allows you to score critical hits when rolling a 19 and gain an extra reaction per turn. It also has a special ability called Withering Cut, which lets you deal extra necrotic damage with a reaction. In this walkthrough, we will tell you how to get this powerful Duellist’s Prerogative in BG3 by rescuing Lora’s daughter from the evil hag Auntie Ethel.
How to Get the Duellist’s Prerogative in Baldur’s Gate 3
You must proceed to the Basilisk Gate Barracks and complete the Save Vanra quest to obtain the Duellist’s Prerogative.
Start the Save Vanra Quest
To start the quest, you need to talk to Lora at the Basilisk Gate Barracks. She is a former pirate who is looking for her daughter Vanra, who went missing after visiting the Blushing Mermaid tavern. She will ask you to investigate the tavern and find out what happened to her daughter. You need to agree to help her and go to the Blushing Mermaid.
Investigate the Blushing Mermaid Basement
Once you reach the Mermaid, go to the basement by using the oak door near the bar. There, you will notice a barrel on your right; jump on top of it and make an Investigation Check (DC 15) to reveal an illusionary wall. Behind the wall, you will find a hidden passage that leads to the hag’s lair. It is still possible to pass through the wall even if you don’t pass the check.
Finish Help the Hag Survivors Quest
Inside the hag’s lair, you will encounter a group of survivors who have been tortured by Auntie Ethel. They include Mayrina, who you might have met before if you saved her from the hag in Act 1. Talk to them and learn more about the hag’s plans and how to stop her. They will tell you that you need to craft a special grenade called the Hag’s Bane, which can weaken the Hag’s magic and free Vanra from her stomach. They will also give you the recipe and the ingredients for the Hag’s Bane, which are:
- A vial of acid
- A vial of alchemist’s fire
- A vial of holy water
- A vial of poison
- A vial of silver dust
You can find these ingredients in the safe where Mayrina is locked up. To open it, you have to solve a puzzle involving four levers. The correct order to pull the levers is: left, right, middle, and right. Once you open the safe, you can loot the ingredients and craft the Hag’s Bane at the nearby alchemy table.
Defeat Auntie Ethel
After you have the Bane, you can proceed to defeat Auntie Ethel, who is waiting for you in the next room. She will recognize you and taunt you following the some minions to attack. You will have to fight your way through the hag’s lair, which is full of traps and illusions. Be careful not to fall into the pits or touch the cursed objects.
When you reach Ethel, you will have to use the Bane on her before you can damage her. To do this, throw the grenade at Ethel as a bonus action. This will break her shield and expose her to your attacks. You can also use the grenade to free Vanra, who is trapped inside the hag’s stomach. Simply aim the grenade at the hag’s belly and Vanra will come out in one piece.
Go to Lora’s House
Once you defeat the boss and rescue Vanra, return to Lora’s house to complete the quest which is located in Stormshore Armoury’s eastern end. Lora will be overjoyed to see her daughter and thank you for your help. She will also reward you with a weapon which is a unique item back from her pirate days, the Duellist’s Prerogative.
