Baldur’s Gate 3 Gauntlet of Shar Will Give You More Trouble to Complete the Trails

The Leap of Faith trial is getting much more trickier.

If you’ve tackled Gaunlet of Shar part of Baldur’s Gate 3, you know it’s no stroll through the park and it’s about to get even tougher. Larian Studios just rolled out some adjustments that will make the Leap of Faith trial even more of a challenge. Thanks, Larian, I really needed my life to be harder. The Gauntlet in Baldur’s Gate 3 is a major story element, and it’s closely tied to one of the game’s standout characters, Shadowheart. No matter you have started Shadowheart’s quest being her companion or not, getting through the Gauntlet of Shar is a must in the storyline in Act 2.

You’ll have to face three trials: the Faith-Leap Trial, the Self-Same Trial, and the Soft-Step Trial. Each one is a mix of puzzle-solving, a pinch of luck, and maybe a little bit of swearing at your screen. But if you make it through, you get rewarded with serious story development, and if Shadowheart is in your crew, you will get to learn about her. While these trials aren’t the hardest challenges in the game, we clever gamers have been finding ways to bend the rules and take some sneaky shortcuts. Cue the drama: there’s a change afoot, and it’s got some of us a bit on edge.

A Reddit user, alyssaryn, recently dropped a bombshell with an image detailing an update to Faith-Leap Trial. The developers have caught onto our little shortcut—where you could just click on the final platform and let your characters find their path to get past the challenges. Their official word? It was a “divine intervention” from the Goddess Shar herself. Got to appreciate their sense of humor, right?

NOOO I am way too stupid to beat this as intended 😂

This change caught some of us by surprise (and by “some of us,” I mean all of us who love a good cheese method). The comments on that Reddit post were filled with disbelief. Some folks are scratching their heads, wondering how we ever lived without this trick. Others are sharing alternative strategies to dance around the devs’ new hurdles.

There’s a bit of an uproar on Reddit, though. But while some of us are mourning the loss of this easy path, others argue that the Faith-Leap Trial was never meant to be easy. A lot feel that removing a clever workaround is a bit of a party foul on Larian Studios’ part. Creativity is the lifeblood of Baldur’s Gate audience! By eliminating one method, it seems the team has forgotten why this RPG is such fun: the sheer thrill of bending the rules without breaking the game.

It’s very important to keep the game balanced, especially when we are talking about a massive RPG like BG3. But there’s a fine line between fixing bugs and killing creativity that’s what makes this game so special. It’s that creative freedom that keeps us coming back for more, finding new ways to approach old problems. So, while it’s sad to see one of our favorite shortcuts closed off, I’m optimistic there are still plenty of inventive tricks to find out. After all, where there’s a will (and a clever spell combo), there’s always a way!
