If you love secrets, intense puzzles, and some crypt robbing on the side, then the Hhune Mausoleum Puzzle in Baldur’s Gate 3’s Lower City is an optional activity you will not mind completing. It’s an optional crypt-crawling mystery in the Graveyard, and while it’s not required for the BG3’s main story, the puzzle and loot make it a solid side adventure worth the effort.
Baldur’s Gate 3 Hhune Mausoleum Location
To reach the Hhune Mausoleum, head over to the Graveyard section of the Lower City, which unlocks in Act 3. You can find the entrance on the north of the cemetery around coordinates X:21, Y:38. The location isn’t marked by a quest marker on the map, so it can a tricky without knowing the exact coordinates. Move to the central crypt in the graveyard connecting to the House Hhune, a noble family with ties in Faerûn’s underworld.
The crucial things to focus in the mausoleum are:
- Hhune Mausoleum Iron Key – Found by completing the Perception check on the cracked tile east of the Sarcophagus.
- Hhune Mausoleum Golden Key – Locked inside the Sarcophagus itself, which requires a DC 15 Strength check to pry open.
- The Legacy of Hhune (Note) – Also inside the sarcophagus. This is your clue:
“KNEEL WITH THE WEIGHT OF ALL YOU VALUE AT HIS FEET, AND HE WILL REVEAL HIMSELF.”
How to Solve the Hhune Mausoleum Puzzle in BG3
The above note means to kneel, but there’s no real “kneel” command in BG3; what it actually wants is weight at the statue’s feet. Specifically, there’s a pressure plate or tile in front of the Sarcophagus between the columns. You need at least 700 lbs (roughly 400 kg) of total encumbrance on that plate. This can be done by having your whole party ungroup and stand on the tile together.
Otherwise, you can overload one or two party members with heavy gear, wildshaping into a heavy form like an Owlbear Druid, or dragging a heavy object, even a 400-500 lb skeleton from the neighboring crypt will do the job. Once the pressure threshold is met, a hidden wall slides open revealing a new chamber on the left end wall of the Sarcophagus.
What’s Behind the Hidden Wall?
Inside the chamber, you’ll find a Knights of the Shield statue and a journal providing lore bits about the Emperor’s influence. This tale nugget hints at hidden allegiances and bigger story connections in Baldur’s Gate 3.
These are all the rewards you will get:
- Gilded Chest – Requires the Golden Key from the Sarcophagus.
