What is Bussing Meaning in Marvel Rivals? Report Feature Explained

It's something else in Marvel Rivals.

Marvel Rivals is full of fast-paced action, flashy powers, and, if I say so, some rather confusing in-game terminology. One of the most recent additions that’s caught players off guard is a reporting option called “Bussing.” If you have stared at the report pop-up screen and scratched your head about the new report feature, Bussing with a thought, “Are we talking about school transportation or something else?”—you’re not alone. Here’s what bussing means in Marvel Rivals, how to identify it, and what to do when you see it happening in a match.

What Does Bussing Mean in Marvel Rivals?

Bussing in Marvel Rivals refers to players intentionally teaming up with cheaters to climb the game rank or competitive ladder. The term was officially clarified by the developers, NetEase, after players reached out with confusion over the unfamiliar term.

So, if you’re in a match and notice one player isn’t cheating himself, but keeps showing up with obvious hackers—the people who never miss a shot or seem to know your every move. If that non-cheating player continues to benefit from playing with those cheaters (and isn’t reporting them), that’s bussing.

It’s essentially “boosting,” but with a shady twist—riding the coattails of cheaters.

The term “bussing” has different meanings in different contexts. In Korean MMOs, “bussing” (or “bus riding”) refers to being carried by a more skilled player. In everyday Gen Z slang, it has nothing to do with cheating. On forums such as Steam and Reddit, people joked, “Why am I being told I can report someone for bussing when I thought it meant they were popping off?”

So, the confusion came from translation quirks, and possibly from the developers trying to find a universal term for “boosting via cheaters.” The term “bussing” stuck, even if it doesn’t make sense in English slang.

Difference Between Bussing and Carrying

There is one thing to clarify that not all “carrying” is bussing. Carrying means you’re a high-skilled player lifting your team to victory; it’s fair game. Bussing, on the other hand, is when you knowingly play together with a cheater to win matches and inflate your ranking; it’s definitely against the rules.

NetEase has made a clarification for accidentally being in a lobby with a cheater won’t get you flagged. The issue is when you continuously party up with cheaters and don’t report or avoid them. If you stick around and reap the rewards, that’s when you’re part of the problem.

How to Spot Bussing in a Match & How to Report It

It’s not easy to figure out if an opponent is cheating because he can be a pro player with exceptional game skills, and you might consider him a cheater. But there are a few red flags to identify such gamers:

  • Killcam behavior: Their shots are too good, hitting on the spot, such as all headshots with zero human error.
  • Movement: Jerky, non-human accurate movements that are not possible in normal gameplay.
  • Admission: Some cheaters even flex their hacks in chat.
  • Patterns: A player who constantly queues with known hackers or ignores obvious hacking behavior could be bussing.

If you’re on the same team or the opposing one and you notice someone clearly sticking to a cheater like glue, it’s worth investigating further and reporting it. To report a cheater instantly during a match:

  • Press Tab to open the scoreboard.
  • Click on the player’s name.
  • Select “Report Player.”
  • Choose “Negative Behavior.”
  • In the next pop-up screen, select “Bussing” and proceed with reporting.

In case you haven’t made a report during a match, but found a player guilty and want to report him from the lobby, here’s how to do it:

  • Head to the main menu and click your profile icon.
  • Go to the “History” tab.
  • Choose the match in which you encountered the cheater.
  • Click the player’s name and repeat the same report steps.

NetEase will review the received case from your end. If they confirm the negative behavior, the player will receive penalties anything from a temporary ban to heavy consequences. The devs take these reports seriously. If the accused player is confirmed to be bussing, you’ll receive an in-game message updating you on the taken action, whether it’s a suspension or ban. This transparency helps reinforce that the system works and encourages players to report cheating-related behavior and not themselves get involved in such activities.
