Can You Become a Werewolf in Baldur’s Gate 3?

Here's what we know about werewolves involvement in Baldur's Gate 3

In Baldur’s Gate 3, players have dabbled with vampire tadpoles and transformations, and it leads to many fans wondering, “Why not werewolves?” After all, who wouldn’t want to go all furry under the full moon and bring chaos? But the werewolf transformations for players aren’t officially in BG3—yet. The game developers, Larian Studios, have included vampire-inspired abilities, but it seems the werewolf angle isn’t open to players for now.

Can You Turn into a Werewolf in Baldur’s Gate 3?

Werewolves do exist in Baldur’s Gate 3, but not in a form you can take on yourself. Werewolves are represented as NPCs or enemies in the game, appear in places like Szarr Palace, or are summoned by other dark entities like vampires. They are not easy to fight due to their immunity to non-magical weapon attacks. You can not even charm them into not biting you—they’re cursed to bloodlust and will claw you at the earliest chance.

Baldur's Gate 3 Werewolf Transformation Explained

The community is filled with different player thoughts with some thinking technical challenges might prevent a werewolf form. Although Baldur’s Gate 3 features characters with Wild Shape (Druid transformations), a werewolf might require reworking some abilities. Some fans on Reddit even pointed out the “scrapped” werewolf origin character Helia, who would have been a player werewolf character, but sadly, she didn’t appear in the official release. While Druids can become bears and wolves, an actual werewolf form might complicate things beyond the basic shifts.

In the Baldur’s Gate universe and the broader Forgotten Realms, werewolves are part of the fabric of dark fantasy lore. These lycanthropes usually follow one of two paths: either cursed by bloodlust and doomed to prowl for victims or somewhat tamed under the guidance of Selûne, the goddess of the moon. Although they’re not the vampires’ enemies in BG3 as happens in some stories, werewolves feature special abilities. For example, many of them can perform a brutal Multiattack on a weakened or prone enemy, usually very dangerous in melee combat.

Will Werewolves Ever Be Playable in BG3?

It might not be completely out of reach. Larian Studios is known for listening to its loyal fan base, and there’s a demand for werewolf content—whether as part of a new expansion or perhaps through mods. The community already has custom mods introducing different forms and traits with some crossing their fingers for a future update or DLC that includes a lycanthropy curse or, even better, an official werewolf origin character.

If you want to play Baldur’s Gate 3 as a werewolf, modding might be the closest you’ll get. While official content limits you to humanoid forms and regular animal transformations, the mod community has started adding werewolf-like transformations and lycanthropy-inspired skills. So, if you’re playing on PC, check out Nexus Mods or similar platforms where you can find your desired mods developed by creative minds.
