Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree DLC looks just as good as we’d hoped. FromSoftware has delivered a new, dark and beautiful Shadow Realm that hides some tough primary bosses as well as a few more optional fights for veterans. Similar to the main game, this expansion also comes with new Ash of Wars you can insert into most weapons to make them more deadly by equiping a special skill. One of the exciting new additions is Ash of War: Savage Lion’s Claw.

The name may sound familiar to you, and it absolutely should — it’s an upgraded Lion’s Claw skill from the base game. If you previousely used this Ash of War during your Lands Between adventures, you will be well aware of its strength and here comes more advanced form of this powerful skill. This guide tells you where to find Savage Lion’s Claw and what does it can do in the fight.

What is Ash of War: Savage Lion’s Claw?

Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree - Ash of War Savage Lion's Claw Skill Overview

This Elden Ring Ash of War allows to deliver a forward somersault attack using Savage Lion’s Claw skill. It can be chained into another attack for more damage. This skill is nice and deep with the bravery of mighty Redmanes stricken as a rock – literally, aggroy style. This Ash of War provides the Heavy affinity and can be slotted in swords, axes, and hammers (excluding small armaments/thrusting swords). The cost for the first main attack is 20 FP, with a second follow-up attack at the consumption of extra 10 FP.

How to Get Ash of War: Savage Lion’s Claw in Shadow of the Erdtree?

Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree - Ash of War Savage Lion's Claw Location

To find and obtain Ash of War: Savage Lion’s Claw, you will need to make your way to the Three-Path Cross Site of Grace which is northwest of Scorched Ruins. Here’s how you can reach the exact location:

  • From the Three-Path Cross Site of Grace, move to the north end along with the wall on the left.
  • Keep going this path and ahead, you will reach a small camp.
  • The Ash of War: Savage Lion’s Claw can be found in the camp right by a big fire pit.

What Does Ash of War: Savage Lion’s Claw Do?

Tarnished is using sword weapon with Savage Lion's Claw skill equipped.

Once you have the Savage Lion’s Claw, you can equip it with any compatible weapon to use its skill. Activate to have your character do a somersault forwards, hitting everything in front. During my playthrough, I found that the Savage Lion’s Claw skill works extremely well with stacking effects on consecutive attacks from gear such as Millicent‘s Prosthesis, Rotten Wing Insignia, and Thorny Cracked Tear. This adds up to a lot of damage once your full combo is used.

That said, it can be less effective when dealing with hard bosses because the follow-up attack is difficult to land if you’re attacking quickly and have no time between hits before being attacked by a boss. The base Lion’s Claw skill is still probably better in about as many circumstances (or more, since it deals higher poise damage and can knock over enemies).

Still, the Savage Lion’s Claw is one of the great and stronger new Ash of Wars in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree. The somersault attack and combos it brings make Savage Lion’s Claw a great choice if you’re looking to mix things up and try a different playstyle in the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC.
