If you love to summon minions to wreak havoc on your enemies, then you will be using Raging Spirits a lot in Path of Exile 2. Unlike in the original Path of Exile, where Summon Raging Spirits was a spell as old players will know, it has been reworked in PoE 2 into a Buff Skill and is very useful to fight against tough enemies. With different from the previous skills, the method to unlock these passive skills is also not the same. So, here’s how to get and use Raging Spirits effectively in Path of Exile 2.
What are Raging Spirits?
Raging Spirits is a Buff Skill in Path of Exile 2 that allows you to summon short-lived flaming skulls as minions. These skulls move toward closer enemies and attack them with fiery damage. The skill is classified as a Persistent Buff and requires specific conditions to activate. Here’s what you need to know about its key properties:
- Buff Type: Minion, Fire, Duration-based.
- Effect: Converts 70% of Physical Damage to Fire Damage.
- Maximum Summoned Spirits: 10.
- Fire Spell Activation: Casting fire spells triggers the summoning of Raging Spirits.
- Summoning Mechanics:
- Fire Area Spells: Summon a spirit for every 1.5 meters of radius.
- Fire Projectiles: Summon a spirit on hit.
- Max Per Cast: Five spirits can be summoned per fire spell cast.
- Additional Scaling: Higher-quality gems can increase the summon limit by +1.
These flaming minions deal substantial fire damage and work passively alongside your fire spells, making them an excellent addition to any fire-based build. However, to use this skill, you’ll need to unlock it first.
How to Get Raging Spirits in Path of Exile 2 (PoE 2)
Since Raging Spirits is no longer a spell but a buff, acquiring it works differently than from the classic title. To unlock it, you’ll need an Uncut Spirit Gem and must meet specific requirements.
These Buff Skills can only be unlocked by engraving them onto an Uncut Spirit Gem, which is a rare and valuable gem in Path of Exile 2. These gems are uncommon drops, and finding one can take some time.
These are the easiest ways to get one:
- After defeating The King in the Mists in Freythorn in Act 1, you can use the Gembloom Skull to acquire an uncut spirit gem. This is a monster level 11 area so you need some progress and gear preparation to reach there.
- Explore the Lost City in Act 2 and look for the Golden Tomb, where you should find a gem.
Once you have an Uncut Spirit Gem, follow these steps:
- Open the spirit gem crafting interface in your inventory.
- Select the “Sorceress” or “Elemental” tab (depending on your class or build).
- Choose the Raging Spirits buff and engrave it onto your spirit gem.
How to Use Raging Spirits in Path of Exile 2
After crafting the Raging Spirits buff, you’ll need to meet a few requirements before you can equip and activate it:
- Level: Minimum level 10.
- Intelligence: Requires at least 25 Intelligence (this scales up to 205 Intelligence as the skill level increases).
- Spirit Reservation: The buff reserves 30 Spirit (the game’s resource for activating passive skills).
Once activated, the Raging Spirits buff will appear in your list of spells. Unlike regular skills, it does not need to be placed on your hot bar—it runs passively in the background as long as you meet the requirements.
With the buff active, casting any fire spell will summon flaming skulls to fight for you. Flame Wall is one of the most effective fire spells to pair with Raging Spirits as it lets you summon five spirits in one cast, thanks to its wide area of effect. Further, Firebolt is a simple projectile spell that calls individual spirits on hit. It’s great for triggering spirits from long-range attacks.
The damage from these fire skills scales with Minion Damage modifiers. Follow these tips to increase the damage effect:
- Invest in passive skill nodes that level up the damage for these minions.
- Equip support gems like:
- Fire Infusion: Increases fire damage.
- Feeding Frenzy: Boosts minion aggression and damage.
- Fire Penetration: Reduces enemy fire resistance, allowing your spirits to strike more.
Raging Spirits in PoE 2 adds consistent passive damage to your build; the best thing is these don’t consume mana or require active management. With ten flaming skulls attacking nearby enemies alongside your spells, your total DPS will skyrocket. This is particularly useful in boss fights where you need extra firepower or help to melt high-health enemies without getting yourself smashed.
