As part of the Icon Series, his skin was revealed to the world on September 15th, 2024, and will officially hit the Fortnite Item Shop on September 25th, 2024. But that’s not all—there’s a tournament where you could get El Rubius skin for free.
How to Get the Rubius Icon Series Skin for Free in Fortnite?
Fortnite is hosting the Rubius Skin Cup on September 21st, 2024. That’s your chance to unlock the skin for free before it becomes available in the Item Shop. All you’ve got to do is perform well in the tournament, it’s probably more fun to win it than just shelling out the V-Bucks, right?
What’s in the El Rubius Skin Bundle?
For those not into the competitive scene, the El Rubius skin will be available in the shop on September 25th for 2,400 V-Bucks. These are the all items you will get in the bundle:
- Rubius Skin
- Wilson the Cat Back Bling
- Glowing Katana Pickaxe
- Custom Wrap and Emote
- Loading Screen
- LEGO Variant
You can choose the skin between two different variants including his normal appearance and the other purple cat-themed look. But the star of the show is Wilson the Cat Back Bling, the design idea is taken from Rubius’ real pet and it can even react during some emotes. This element has gained a lot of attention from gamers worldwide.
Can I Get Anything for Free Outside the Tournament?
For Rubius fans in Spain, there’s a freebie! You can earn the “Limonda” emoticon by watching an hour of Rubius content on Twitch. It’s a region-specific reward, so this one is for Spanish players only, but it’s still a fun addition.
If you’re a decent Fortnite player, going for the Cup is probably your best choice to get the skin without spending V-Bucks. But if you’re like me—where “building” is just another way to make a quick, easy ramp for enemies—then waiting for the shop drop might save you the frustration.
