To keep a stolen horse as your own or sell it for profit, there’s a process you need to follow.

You can’t just ride into a town and expect a stable master to take it off your hands—guards will be on you in no time. Instead, you’ll need to find the right buyer or trainer to make the horse officially yours. Here’s everything you need to know about stealing, selling, and keeping stolen horses in KCD2.

How to Sell a Stolen Horse in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2

To get or in other words to steal a horse in KCD 2, there are a couple of options. One way to find the one wandering in the countryside in open fields or staples. Some areas have many of them in one place. There is a mixture of horses with some wild creatures and others who have their owners. Before trying to steal, first carefully look around to confirm nobody is around because you will be a criminal if being seen by someone doing that.

Meeting Horse Handler Mikolai in Nomad Camp in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2

Anyway, once you’ve successfully stolen a horse, next find a buyer. Regular merchants won’t touch stolen goods, so you’ll need to visit the Nomad Camp in Trosky. It’s located northwest of Semine and southeast of Rocktower Pond, up near the cliffs. Once there, meet the Horse Handler Mikolai dressed in a white tunic and wearing a green hat. Mikolai is the NPC who will purchase the stolen horses from you. You’ll usually find him among the horses at the Nomad Camp during the daytime.

Ride the stolen horse to Mikolai, using Fast travel while riding it will take you to the merchant point instantly with the horse. But riding it to travel the whole distance by yourself, be careful of the crowd who can recognize the theft and report you. Further, don’t leave the horse on its own dismounted as this creature is like a cat and can go back to its location from where you have stolen.

Choosing Horse black market dialogue in talk with Mikolai in KCD 2

After encountering Mikolai, talk to him and choose the dialogue option about the “horse black market“. It only appears when the horse is with you or nearby. Choose the “Sell” option to sell the horse – you can either accept the first offer or bargain for a better price. Before getting the horse, you can see its stats to trade it for better money – high-stat horses fetch more Groschen.

After a sale, you’ll need to wait 24 hours before Mikolai can buy another stolen horse from you. It means one deal in a day so few good trades will require some in-game days to get a lot of Groschen. It’s a great way to earn money at the start of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2. The special horses with great abilities can sell for thousands of Groschen, making this one of the best ways to build up your wealth.

How to Keep a Stolen Horse as Your Own

After selling a few horses, it would be better to keep the one good stolen horse for your journey instead of selling it, Mikolai can also help with that. However, it’s not free—you’ll have to pay him a fee to officially make the horse yours. Find Mikolai and open the “Horse black market” menu. Select the “Acquire” option this time rather than “Sell.”

Pay the fee – Mikolai will charge about 50% of the horse’s original cost to register it under your name. If you already have a horse, its value will be deducted from the total price. Once you pay, the horse officially belongs to you. While acquiring a stolen horse permanently is very expensive, it ensures you won’t lose it if you dismount for too long. It also allows you to equip saddles and other gear, so the good uses make up for the investment.

Best Places to Steal Horses

To find the best horse for yourself, you need to know where to steal from. Some of the best locations include:

  • South of Troskowitz – A large field near a carpenter’s area where multiple horses roam.
  • Villages and enemy camps – Horses left unattended can be stolen if no one is watching.
  • Bandit encounters – If you come across a dead rider, their horse might be free for the taking.

Coming across the right horse can set you up with either a powerful companion or a hefty payday.

Can You Get Your Original Horse Back?

The Pebbles from the Kingdom Come: Deliverance is also back, which was Henry’s loyal steed. There is a chance to reunite with Pebbles by owing her. To find Pebbles, go southwest from Troskowitz to find the Semine village. Once there, look for Groom Ballatay near the stables where a gray horse is standing. Convince him to give her back, use persuasion to get Pebbles for free, or pay 160 Groschen to reclaim her.
