In Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, the world is packed with rich side quests that make the medieval adventure alive, and the side quest Absolver is no exception. Given to you by Thomas of Kolin, the quest tasks you to steal The Absolver, a special longsword owned by a Cuman warrior Basan, and forge a replica to either trick Thomas or keep the original sword for yourself. With multiple choices and outcomes, this quest is a great example of the depth Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 offers. Here’s everything you need to know to complete the Absolver in KCD 2.
How to Start the Absolver Quest in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2
To unlock the Absolver quest, you first need to progress through the main story until you’ve completed Main Quest 14: Speak of the Devil. After that, go to Sigismund’s Camp in the Kuttenberg region, where you can find Thomas of Kolin. Look at the above marker on the map if you find it hard to locate him. If Thomas doesn’t give you the quest right away, speak to a blacksmith in Miskowitz or listen for rumors around the camp.
Once you locate Thomas (usually near the camp’s center), talk to him and choose the dialogue options:
- “I hear you have work for me.”
- “Blacksmiths always get dirty.”
He will then explain that he wants Basan’s sword, The Absolver, and will ask you to steal it and forge a replicated version of it. Accept the task by selecting “I’m in.” and progress the quest.
Steal Basan’s Sword
Once the quest is active, this step requires stealth and lockpicking. Basan’s tent is located on the eastern side of Sigismund’s Camp, near the tournament arena. It has a white color with gold trim on its upper part – you can see the marker on the map to find the exact spot.
The best time to steal the sword is at night (11 PM-midnight) when Basan and other soldiers are less active. Make sure Basan isn’t nearby; if he is, either wait for him to leave or create a distraction. The chest inside Basan’s tent has a medium-level lock so with lockpicks in hand, it will be easy for you to unlock it with your high Lockpicking skill at this part of the game. After successfully opening the chest, get the Longsword: Absolver.
Forge a Replica of The Absolver Sword
After successfully stealing Basan’s sword, the next step is to forge a replica of it. You’ll need to gather the required materials for blacksmithing and visit a blacksmith station.
To craft the replica, you need the following items:
- 1 x Deer Skin (purchased from an armorsmith)
- 1 x Eight-Sided Sword Pommel (bought from a weaponsmith)
- 1 x Horned Sword Guard (bought from a weaponsmith)
- 2 x Frankfurt Steel (available at blacksmith shops)
- 2 x Iron (available at blacksmith shops)
These materials are available to purchase at the blacksmith shops within Sigismund’s Camp and you have to forge the sword at one of these stations. With all materials in hand, start making the sword, and be careful with heating the metal. If you let it spark too much in the furnace, you’ll ruin the process and lose all the materials. If you plan to trick Thomas, make sure the replica reaches quality rank 3, as he won’t be able to tell it’s the fake sword.
Tip: Save before forging the replica, just in case you mess up the process.
What to Do with the Swords?
Now that Henry has both the real Absolver and its fake piece, you have to decide how to complete the quest by giving which sword to Thomas. If you hand over the real sword to Thomas, he will be satisfied, and you will receive 607.9 Groschen as a reward with the completion of the quest. As already told, you can give a level 3 fake sword to Thomas as he will accept his thinking as a real one and the reward will be the same. For the actual blade, you can place it back in its place in Basan’s tent or trick Thomas even when carrying the real Absolver and keep it yourself.
