Whether you’re crafting early armor or hunting down materials for charms in Monster Hunter Wilds, Piragill Fins are one of the mid-game materials that can be oddly tough to farm if you don’t know where to look. So, this MH Wilds guide tells where to find Piragill Fins, how to farm them efficiently, and where they come into play in your crafting.
Where to Find Piragill Fin in Monster Hunter Wilds
To farm the Piragill Fin in MH Wilds, head over to Area 10 in Scarlet Forest, and if you’ve unlocked the pop-up camp there, even better. It is one of the fastest methods. Talk to Alma and trigger one of the optional quests that take place in the forest with one or two stars. Once there, you’ll spot plenty of Piragills swimming around. If there aren’t enough, you can fast-travel away and return to refresh the spawns. Be ready to take them out and carve them up for valuable fins.
Rank matters when it comes to which fin version you get. Piragills can drop two types, the standard Piragill Fin or the upgraded Piragill Fin+. For the regular Piragill Fin, stick to any Low-Rank quests like “A Sharp Sort” in the Scarlet Forest. These quests will only spawn Low Rank Piragills, which drop the non-plus fins you need. If you go into High-Rank quests (4-star and above), you’ll end up getting Piragill Fin+, which is great but not what you’re after.
If you have the pop-up camp set up in Area 10, you can fast travel back and forth to reset the Piragill spawns. Also, using the quest system (even the simple 1- or 2-star optional quests) creates an “instance” of the map, so everything resets once you leave which is great for repeated farming runs.
Alternatively, another great farming location is Area 7, near the base of the Great Tree where the river flows into the lake. Piragills love this spot. You’ll notice them swimming down from the small river into the lake, making it easy pickings to farm a lot of them all at once. Kill these creatures and loot their bodies – this is a steady way to collect Piragill Fins.
What is Piragill Fin Used For in MH Wilds?
Piragill Fins are mainly used to craft early-game armor and charms. These are very valuable to bulk up defensive stats or unlock utility perks early on in the game.
Armor Crafting:
- Piragill Greaves – Need 1 Piragill Fin to forge this piece. Not bad for early-game mobility and protection.
Charm Crafting/Upgrading:
- Guard Charm I (x1 Piragill Fin)
- Maintenance Charm I (x2 Piragill Fins)
- Breaker Charm I (x4 Piragill Fins)
- Impact Charm III (x4 Piragill Fins)
If you’re building around blocking, stagger resistance, or improving KO potential with blunt weapons, these charms are going to be clutch.
