Capcom recently announced that the Resident Evil 4 Remake has sold over 4 million copies worldwide. This achievement is particularly noteworthy, as the company had previously reported that the game had got impressive 3 million sales within the first 48 hours of its launch.
Given that it only debuted on March 24, 2023, and has already sold over 4 million copies, it’s a great achievement. The game is a smash hit, with sales already surpassing those of the previous Resident Evil games.
Capcom stated, “In addition to Resident Evil 4 garnering interest and attention from the release of the Chainsaw Demo before launch, sales of the title grew steadily following a highly positive reception from customers, driving worldwide sales over 4 million units.”
According to Alex Aniel’s analysis, the author of Itchy Tasty: An Unofficial History of Resident Evil, the Remake has earned the second spot in sales within the Resident Evil franchise’s history. Mr. Aniel has expressed his anticipation for it to surpass the sales record of Resident Evil 6, which took almost a year to reach the milestone of 5 million units sold after its release.
Sales of Resident Evil 4 have topped 4 million units in two weeks.
For comparison, the time it took previous REs to hit 4 million:
RE6: 1 day (Day 1 shipment of 4.5m)
RE5: ~3 weeks
Village: 3 weeks
RE:2: <2 months
RE7: ~9 months
RE:3: 12 monthshttps://t.co/ZMfPANvzTF— Alex Aniel (@cvxfreak) April 7, 2023
