When Elden Ring hit the scene back a couple of years ago, it was pretty much a true jam and became 2022’s top-selling game. FromSoftware established the world as a gold standard for games that carry world-building experiences, providing challenging yet rewarding gameplay environments. This is exactly why I was ecstatic at the thought of the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC. Can this expansion possibly live up to the high bar the base game set? Having spent countless hours plumbing the depths, I can say it not only lives up to those expectations but in many ways exceeds them.

As soon as I walked into the Land of Shadow, I was on it. It felt like a completely new game, it wasn’t just expansion for me. The tone is darker and heavier, the mood meanders under a shroud of mystery. That very first place – a truly gigantic, open expanse overshadowed by the ominous Haligtree and crawling with fierce Furnace Golems – firmly established that this experience was at once familiar but excitingly new. The verticality of the map and level design combined with the scale took my breath away.

So, I thought nostalgic, but rather what stood out to me the most was that the gameplay felt old (obviously in a good way) and fresh all at once. The battles, the terrain, and the story were all ramped up to eleven. Mechanic upgrades such as Scadutree Fragments and Revered Spirit Ashes are just some of the layers this already texturous gameplay is built upon. I faced enemies that returned more menacing than before, uncovered secrets hidden in every nook and cranny on the map, and grappled with a narrative more engaging than ever. I went into Shadow of the Erdtree with high expectations, and it didn’t just meet them—it blew them out of the water.

One of the things that struck me about Shadow of the Erdtree was how it managed to condense the tone of Elden Ring into a more focused, yet equally rich experience. The gameplay feels familiar but fresh, with new mechanics and items that keep you on your toes. Scadutree Fragments and Revered Spirit Ashes are new collectibles that boost your stats within the Land of Shadow, providing a sense of progression that’s unique to this DLC.

Combat is as intense as ever, if not more so. The enemies in the Land of Shadow are faster and more aggressive. I quickly learned that my tried-and-true strategies from the base game wouldn’t always cut it here. I faced everything from harlequin-like enemies with rapid attacks to towering golems requiring precise tactics to defeat. Each encounter felt like a new puzzle to solve. FromSoftware has outdone itself with some of the most challenging and memorable fights I’ve ever experienced. One boss, the Blackgaol Knight, took me multiple attempts to defeat. His auto-crossbow attack right at the start of the fight was a brutal wake-up call. Another standout was the Dancing Lion in Bellurat, whose rapid, unpredictable moves kept me on edge for hours.

Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree image showing fight by using Moonveil Katana.

Experimenting with new weapons and builds was another highlight. Shadow of the Erdtree introduces many new gear, from the Milady greatsword with its elegant moveset to the martial arts-inspired Dryleaf Arts. Each weapon looks unique and valuable, giving new ways to approach combat. I started with my trusty Moonveil Katana and glintstone magic build but quickly found myself trying out new weapons and respecing my character to adapt to the DLC’s unique challenges.

The DLC also encourages you to step out of your comfort zone. Some enemies, like the Furnace Golems, can’t be hit or damaged without specific items. This forced me to craft new tools and rethink my strategies. The game’s subtle nudges to experiment with different builds and approaches kept the experience fresh and engaging.

Lore here in Shadow of the Erdtree is easier to access compared to scenes over the base game—that of Miquella, the semi-divine character at the heart of the expansion. From the religious teachings he spread to the chilling origins of iconic foes such as the jars; the story here is abundant and appealing. There was a single statement from an NPC about how Miquella had turned love into a weapon with which to “shrive clean the hearts of men” that gave even more chills than usual, simply for its thoughtfulness.

It also makes for interesting new characters that you encounter as well. Freyja fights alongside Radahn and has a taste for combat almost as much as she worships you, the player. A second, undisclosed character continued to double-cross me in ways that kept me wanting to know more. It neatly juxtaposes your rise to Elden Lord with a disturbing tour of the corpses hidden beneath the throne, rendering an additional layer of moral shade to your quest.

FromSoftware’s master level of world design is on full display in this expansion. The Land of Shadow is rich in detail, with many layers and hidden directions for you to explore. From winding corridors in a castle to a forest filled with hundreds of giant stone structures, there is always something for you to discover. There are nice and challenging environmental puzzles.

Very early on, I had to perform certain gestures at particular moments in order to uncover secret paths (yeah… I didn’t know that was a thing either). It means exploring something tangible, solving puzzles that give you just enough context about an object to make discovering its larger story significant. World-scale verticality also comes into play. Reaching the top of a peak will frequently expose you to new areas below and traveling down into the depths of a canyon could unlock an entirely different region.

Fighting with Freyja in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree.

Shadow of the Erdtree is a ride; it was brutal in the early going, as I found myself in a tight spot fighting stronger foes and wandering around the maze of a map. But every loss was a lesson, and every win felt like a victory. After all, the difficulties of the DLC forced me to figure out what works and what doesn’t in all areas of my proficiency—and that made me a better player. One memory that sticks out was after hours of dying against a really hard boss, I finally bested it. It was next-level elation and a sense of accomplishment. This is the kind of stuff that makes FromSoftware games so great, they push, prompt you to step out, and confront the void with your skill and patience, but the rewards are deeply satisfying.

But of course, in looking back on my relationship with Shadow of the Erdtree, I know that it’s about more than just playing the game. It’s all about the ride, the fights, the victories, and the lessons. The wonder of finding something completely new and the pride that comes from going up against truly difficult challenges. This expansion wasn’t merely more Elden Ring; it was more reason to believe that this game is something rare and meaningful and it deepened my love for it.

Shadow Of The Erdtree Review screenshot - meeting with an NPC in rich open terrain.

No game is perfect, and Shadow of the Erdtree is far from it. It tells an incredibly rich story, but it is often a little too obscure. A few side quests that I ran into seemed to forget what their resolution was supposed to be or made the next step less clear than it should have been. Although this complexity is more often than not a bow in the game’s arrow, it occasionally made even navigation itself an exercise in patience. There is no subterranean toggle to only focus on the layers and paths.

Though it was generally not a huge issue, technical problems occasionally caused shimmers in the virtual world that broke immersion. Some bosses would just stop attacking me mid-fight, and some areas had sloppy collisions where I could walk into the terrain. Not frequent but a tad bit visible with these bugs. Also, the original game reusing some enemies was a bit annoying too. It was good to run into some familiar faces, but having Troll Knights and Finger Creepers pop up several times became monotonous. I would welcome more new types of bosses.

Final Verdict

Even with all these criticisms, Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree is a fantastic piece of DLC and one that any fan of Elden Ring should play. It distills the game into its core elements but hugely changes enough to make exploring the Lands Between a joyful fresh experience anew. The world design is a masterpiece, combat is as deep and rewarding as ever and the light narrative layer has welcome depth to the storyline. Once again FromSoftware reminds us why they are at the top with their production. This is far more than mere expansion content; it’s an adventure you’ll be humming the melodies of long after you set down your controller. Seasoned Elden Ring vets and newcomers alike can find something unique to enjoy in this DLC. Get ready, blade sharp, into the shadows we go. You won’t regret it.

]]>
When it comes to gaming mice, Razer’s Naga series has always been a top pick for MMO and MOBA players, and the new Razer Naga V2 Pro continues this legacy with some impressive upgrades. The V2 Pro takes the legacy and cranks it up a notch with some serious upgrades. We’re talking about a turbo-charged Focus Pro 30K optical sensor, next-gen Razer optical switches, and an incredibly customizable HyperScroll Pro wheel that lets you fine-tune the scroll tension and steps.

This mouse offers great versatility with its swappable side plates, you can easily switch between a 12-button setup for MMOs, a 6-button plate for more general use, and a simple 2-button layout for FPS games. Wireless connectivity options, including 2.4GHz and Bluetooth, provide the freedom to play untethered, and with up to 150 hours of battery life, you can game all week without recharging. Sure, it comes with a high $179.99 price point, but if you’re serious about gaming and need a mouse that can do it all, the Naga V2 Pro is worth every penny.

Razer Naga V2 Pro: Design and Build

Razer Naga V2 Pro has the classic Razer matte black finish, which looks sleek and professional. The RGB lighting is subtle but gives a nice touch to the overall appealing design—especially the logo and the 12-button side plate. If you love customizing your gaming setup, you’re going to appreciate how well this mouse fits in.

Razer Naga V2 Pro from the left front angle.

In terms of size and weight, the Naga V2 Pro is on the heftier side. It measures about 4.7 x 3 x 1.7 inches and weighs in at 134 grams – that might sound like a lot, especially if you’re used to lighter mice. But the weight gives it a solid, premium feel. Personally, I like a bit of heft in my mouse—it makes it feel sturdy and substantial. However, if you have smaller hands or prefer ultra-light mice, you might find it a bit cumbersome.

Moreover, the Naga V2 Pro is built with right-handed gamers in mind. It has a nice hump toward the back, which fits comfortably into the palm of your hand, and a little ridge on the right side where you can rest your ring finger. I found it comfortable for long gaming sessions, though it’s definitely better suited for those with medium to larger hands. If you’ve got smaller hands, you might have to stretch a bit to reach all the buttons comfortably, which could be a deal-breaker for some.

Razer Naga V2 Pro: Key Features

Naga V2 Pro three swappable side plates with programmable buttons.

One of the standout features of the Naga V2 Pro is the swappable side plates. Razer gives you three different plates to choose from: a 12-button setup for your MMO marathons, a 6-button plate for when you need a bit more versatility, and a 2-button option for the FPS sessions. Swapping them out is super easy, thanks to the magnetic attachment. I found myself switching between the plates depending on what game I was playing, and it made a noticeable difference. It’s like having three mice in one, and who doesn’t love that kind of flexibility?

Next is the scroll wheel, you may thinking—how exciting can a scroll wheel be? But this one’s special. The Naga V2 Pro features the HyperScroll Pro wheel, which lets you customize the scrolling to a ridiculous degree. You can adjust the tension, the number of scroll steps, and even the haptic feedback. There are six preset modes, including a smooth, free-spin mode and a more traditional, tactile mode. Furthermore, you can create your own custom mode in the Synapse 3 software. It sounds a bit over-the-top, but once you dial in your perfect settings, it’s hard to go back.

Wireless freedom is another big selling point here. The Naga V2 Pro offers three ways to connect: via a 2.4GHz wireless dongle, Bluetooth, or good old-fashioned wired USB-C. The 2.4GHz connection is rock solid, with virtually no latency, which is crucial for gamers. The Bluetooth option is great for more casual use or when you’re on the go. And if you ever need to charge while playing, just plug it in with the USB-C cable and continue your storyline in Baldur’s Gate 3, or keep getting through the campaigns in Modern Warfare 2.

Speaking of charging, the battery life on this thing is impressive. Razer claims up to 150 hours on 2.4GHz wireless and up to 300 hours on Bluetooth. In my experience, those numbers hold up pretty well, especially if you turn off the RGB lighting. And if you want to go all out, you can get the wireless charging dock (sold separately) for even more convenience. There’s also a nice little slot under the side plates where you can stash the wireless dongle—no more losing that tiny piece of plastic.

Razer Naga V2 Pro: Performance

Let’s get down to how this Razer gaming mouse performs. Spoiler alert: the Razer Naga V2 Pro does not disappoint. First, the heart of any good gaming mouse is its sensor, and the Naga V2 Pro comes with Razer’s Focus Pro 30K optical sensor. I’m not usually cranking my DPI that high, but having the option for such precise control is pretty awesome. During my gaming sessions, the sensor was spot on. Whether I was casually exploring open-world games or in the heat of an MMO raid, the tracking was flawless. There’s zero noticeable lag, and the mouse glides smoothly on about any surface.

Razer Naga V2 Pro from the left side with the side case open.

The Gen 3 optical switches are rated for up to 90 million clicks means they’re built to last. What I loved most about them was the tactile feedback. Every click feels satisfying and responsive, with no annoying double-click issues. This is particularly important in fast-paced titles where every millisecond counts.

To put the Naga V2 Pro to the test, I played a mix of games: an MMO (World of Warcraft), a MOBA (League of Legends), an FPS (Overwatch), and a single-player RPG (The Witcher). Switching between the swappable side plates made me feel it’s tailored to the game type. The 12-button panel was a game-changer for WoW, giving me quick access to all my abilities and macros without having to stretch my fingers too much. For Apex Legends, the 2-button plate was perfect—simple and lightweight, allowing for quick reflexes and precise aiming.

Even during extended gaming sessions, the Naga V2 Pro remained comfortable. I’m a palm-grip kind of guy, and this mouse fits my hand like a glove. Sure, it’s a bit heavy at 134 grams, but I didn’t find it to be a problem. If anything, the weight gave it a solid, premium feel. However, I can see how it might be a bit much for those who prefer lighter mice or have little hands.

Razer Naga V2 Pro: Software and Customization

Razer Naga V2 Pro DPI customization options in Synapse 3.

If you’re a tinkerer like me, you’re going to love what Razer’s Synapse 3 software brings to the table. Razer’s Synapse 3 software is the hub where all the magic happens. When I first fired it up, I was greeted with an intuitive interface that made going through settings very easy. You get a top-down view of the mouse, complete with side views for each of the three side plates.

One of my favorite features is the button remapping. Every button on the Naga V2 Pro is programmable, including the profile switch button on the bottom of the mouse. You can drag and drop commands, keystrokes, or even macros onto any button. For someone who plays a variety of games, this is a lifesaver. I set up different profiles for MMOs, FPS games, and even productivity tasks. Switching between profiles is amazingly quick, and you can store up to five onboard profiles, so your settings go wherever you take your mouse.

With HyperShift, you can add a secondary function to each button. So, if you’re in the heat of a battle and need more commands at your fingertips, press your designated HyperShift button, and bam—instant access to another layer of commands. It’s incredibly useful for complex in-game situations.

Moreover, the Razer Naga V2 Pro supports up to 30,000 DPI, which is way more than I’ll ever need, but having the option to fine-tune your sensitivity is fantastic. You can set up to five different DPI stages and cycle through them with the DPI switch button. You will find it useful when you need to switch from a high-DPI setting for fast movements to a lower one for accurate aiming.

The Naga V2 Pro’s RGB lighting is fully customizable through Synapse 3. You can tweak the brightness, select from a variety of effects (like breathing, reactive, and spectrum cycling), and even sync it with other Razer Chroma-enabled devices. I had a lot of fun matching the lighting to my game’s theme or my desktop setup.

The HyperScroll Pro wheel is another standout feature. Synapse 3 lets you choose between six different scroll modes, including a customizable mode where you can adjust the scroll tension and the number of scroll steps. You can even set it to automatically switch modes based on the application you’re using. For example, you can have a smooth scroll for web browsing and a tactile scroll for gaming. I found this feature to be very handy and unique compared to other mice I’ve used.

Should You Buy the Razer Naga V2 Pro?

After spending some quality time with the Razer Naga V2 Pro, here are my final thoughts. This mouse is great and comes with features that are crafted for serious gamers, especially those into MMOs and MOBAs. The swappable side plates are a game-changer, giving you the flexibility to adapt your setup depending on the game you’re playing. Whether you need a 12-button setup for a complex MMO or a simple 2-button layout for an FPS, the Naga V2 Pro has got you covered.

The customizable HyperScroll Pro wheel is one of the top shiny features. I loved being able to tweak the scroll tension and steps to suit my needs. It’s the kind of customization I didn’t know I needed until I had it. And let’s not forget the impressive Focus Pro 30K optical sensor, which delivers top-notch precision and responsiveness. Wireless connectivity is solid, and the battery life is impressive and can last for days without the need to recharge, especially if you turn off the RGB lighting. I also appreciated the option to use Bluetooth for more casual use or to save battery. And if you ever need to plug in, the USB-C connection has you covered.

That being said, the Naga V2 Pro has some things you should need to consider. It’s on the heavier side, which might not be ideal for everyone, and the $179.99 price tag is definitely steep – not for limited-budget users. If you’re a casual gamer or someone with smaller hands, you might find this mouse a bit too much. But if you’re a pro or competitive gamer who loves to customize and needs a versatile, high-performance gaming mouse, this Razer Naga V2 Pro is worth every penny. It’s a solid investment that can handle just about anything you throw at it, and it’s built to last.

Cult of the Lamb Review: A Delightfully Dark Ritual You’ll Gladly Partake In https://www.gamesrecon.com/cult-of-the-lamb-review Mon, 27 May 2024 16:19:57 +0000 https://www.gamesrecon.com/?p=14646 Adorable yet grotesque cult management roguelike.

The post Cult of the Lamb Review: A Delightfully Dark Ritual You’ll Gladly Partake In appeared first on GamesRecon: Video Games News, Guides & Reviews.

]]>
Ever wanted to lead your own cult, but find the whole “human sacrifice” thing a bit off-putting? Cult of the Lamb, the delightfully dark roguelike from Massive Monster, lets you build your adorable flock of followers without sacrificing your morals (or any actual lambs). Picture this: You’re a fluffy lamb about to be sacrificed, but instead of meeting your maker, you’re offered a deal by a demonic deity known as The One Who Waits. He’ll save your life, and give you unholy powers, and all you have to do is start a cult in his name. Sound intriguing? Welcome to Cult of the Lamb, a game that’s equal parts adorable and disturbing.

At its core, Cult of the Lamb is a hybrid of a dungeon-crawling roguelike and cult management sim. You take turns wandering through randomly created dungeons and taking care of your cult members’ daily routines as the leader. The combat system is thrilling and quick-paced with different types of weapons and skills available during every dungeon exploration— ensuring it never gets monotonous but rather always keeps you on your toes. The intensity of action demands agility due to Lamb’s dodge roll; you also need to adopt a strategy when using curses that deplete Fervor.

This cult base management game takes place outside of dungeons, where you have to establish your cult’s base. The tasks at the base include gathering resources, constructing buildings, and performing rituals that ensure the followers’ faith and dedication. A good synergy between these two aspects results in a cyclical relationship: achievements in dungeons greatly determine how prosperous your cult will be, which in turn influences your gameplay. Cult bases are important for keeping followers’ loyalty— more than dungeon success — so both need equal attention during gameplay coordination.

Cult Management

View of cult management in Cult of the Lamb.

One way to make a cult work is to balance three essential needs: food, health, and spirituality. Faith is also important because, without it, the members of the group may start to have doubts. You can keep their faith high by delivering sermons each day as well as completing quests and rituals. The latter can be innocent ceremonies or practices bordering on being inhuman like human sacrifices, and this depends on which principles you decide to follow.

The flexibility of letting you shape your cult is one of the most intriguing elements of this game. You can either be a kind leader who values his worshipers’ welfare or an authoritarian ruler who uses them for his own benefit. As a result, these choices affect how you play since different tenets provide unique bonuses and abilities.

Art and Atmosphere

Cult of the Lamb Amazing Visuals

The art style of Cult of the Lamb is both cute and morbid. The fusion of adorable cartoonish woodland creatures with sinister undertones results in an image that is memorable and visually appealing. Every nook and cranny of the game’s environments is intricately designed, overflowing with unique personality and allure; this includes dungeons as well as cult bases.

The design doesn’t stop at the graphics but seeps into many collectible items in the game like Tarot cards which give different benefits and downsides. The pictures on these cards are stunningly beautiful, contributing further to the visual charm of the game. The horror and humor blend portrayed by the art direction does more than just set the tone for the gameplay; it underscores that distinct duality in every game’s aspect.

Combat and Exploration

Fight scene in Cult of the Lamb.

The dungeon-crawling part of Cult of the Lamb is where the game shines with its roguelike elements. Each time you venture into a dungeon, it’s a brand new adventure filled with enemies, traps, and treasures. The combat feels smooth and responsive, offering a range of weapons and curses to experiment with. You can pick from quick and nimble weapons like daggers or slower but more powerful ones like axes, each having its strengths and weaknesses.

As you explore, you’ll be rewarded with new followers, resources, and valuable items that come in handy for managing your cult. The dungeons also have tough boss fights that put your skills and strategies to the test. Going through these dungeons successfully is crucial for the growth and survival of your cult since the resources and followers you gather are crucial for maintaining your base.

Rituals and Doctrines

One of the coolest things about this game is the ritual system. It lets you do all sorts of ceremonies that can boost faith, get you resources, or give you other sweet benefits. And you unlock these rituals by choosing different doctrines. These doctrines shape the beliefs and practices of your cult. For example, you could pick a doctrine that allows your followers to battle it out in ritual combat, or one that boosts faith by offering up sacrifices.

The best part is that the choice of doctrines adds a ton of replayability to the game. Depending on which ones you go for, you can end up with totally different playstyles and dynamics within your cult. It’s all about experimenting and finding that perfect balance that matches your leadership style.

A Few Fleecy Flaws

While Cult of the Lamb is undeniably charming, it’s not without its flaws. The dungeon crawling can seem repetitive after playing for a while, and the base-building aspects lack some of the depth found in other management sims. Still, these minor issues are easily overshadowed by the game’s unique charm and addictive gameplay loop.

Verdict

Cult of the Lamb is a charming dark comedy that manages to mingle roguelike action with a cult simulator. It’s adorable, it’s messy, and it’s got surprising depth. With an absolute ton of character, it’s sure to wrap you up in its fluffy arms and refuse to let go. If you fancy playing a darkly humorous game that’s light on its feet, then this game is an offering you can’t refuse. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have a sermon to give and a few dissenting followers to…re-educate.

Released on August 11, 2022, Cult of the Lamb is available on both PS4 and PS5 platforms.

Razer Blade 14 (2024) Review: Expensive But Powerhouse https://www.gamesrecon.com/razer-blade-14-2024-review-expensive-but-powerhouse Wed, 15 May 2024 15:52:28 +0000 https://www.gamesrecon.com/?p=14555 With its high price tag, even compared to other premium models, I can't help but feel like it should offer a little more bang for the buck.

The post Razer Blade 14 (2024) Review: Expensive But Powerhouse appeared first on GamesRecon: Video Games News, Guides & Reviews.

]]>
Razer Blade 14 (2024) is a machine that isn’t just a gaming laptop but a veritable symbol of high-end tech luxury. Pulling this laptop out in a coffee shop almost feels like a flex, given its sleek design and top-tier performance credentials. This year, though, Razer faces some stiff competition, more so than it has previously. The ROG Zephyrus G14 (2024) steps up as a formidable rival with its stunning chassis, use of top-quality build, and eye-catching OLED display. It’s crafted to appeal directly to the high-end market that Razer has dominated for so long.

For this Razer Blade 14 review, I’ll hone in on the ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 (2024), which I reviewed with almost the same specs a couple of months ago and I declared it the ‘powerhouse for both gamers and creators.’ Both come shipped including the impressive AMD Ryzen 9 8945HS and Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 combo, making them ideal for a head-to-head comparison.

So, why Razer Blade 14 is the better choice than its fierce competitor?

Key Specifications
 • CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 8945HS
 • GPU: Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 (140W)
 • Memory: 32GB DDR5 5600MHz
 • Storage: 1TB PCIe NVMe SSD
 • Display: 14” QHD+ (2560 x 1440) 240Hz HDR
 • Dimensions: 12.59 x 8.66 x 0.66 inches
 • Weight: 5.40 pounds
 • OS: Windows 11

The design of your laptop says a lot about it before you even power it on. Right off the bat, the Blade 14 exudes that classic Razer sophistication. It’s sleek, with a strong chassis thanks to its aluminum body that not only looks premium but also feels sturdy in your hands. If you’re familiar with Razer’s design language, you’ll recognize the matte black finish and the subtle green accents. It’s understated yet unmistakably Razer.

Comparing it to the ROG Zephyrus G14, which has also stepped up its game this year, the competition is tighter. The Zephyrus sports a fantastic chassis as well, using premium materials that rival the Blade 14. The G14 has embraced a more minimalist aesthetic too, which might appeal if you’re into a less gamer-centric design. It’s also got the gorgeous OLED display which can be a real head-turner for those who focus more on the screen quality.

But back to the Blade. It’s not just about looking good; the build quality has to hold up to the rigors of daily use and travel. I’ve carted it around from cafes to libraries, and it feels like it can handle being lugged in a backpack without the fear of it picking up dents or scratches too easily. It’s solid, and that reassurance of durability is crucial when you’re investing in a high-end laptop.

In terms of thickness, the Blade 14 isn’t the best on the market, but it strikes a nice balance between being compact and housing powerful internals that need a bit more space to breathe. Sure, it’s a tad thicker than the Zephyrus G14, but we’re talking millimeters here. That slight increase in bulk isn’t something that bothers me personally—it’s a small trade-off for the inside architecture and the great cooling system that doesn’t allow the machine to exceed the temperature figures beyond the limit under heavy loads.

Razer Blade 14 amazing 240Hz display
Photo: Matthew Moniz/YouTube

The Razer Blade 14 (2024) comes with a 2560 x 1600 IPS panel, which is pretty sweet to look at. It’s crisp, and bright, and brings colors to life in a way that keeps games and videos looking fantastic. Moreover, it can ramp up to a nice 240Hz refresh rate, making it a dream for gamers who usually play fast-paced titles where every millisecond counts.

Now, comparing this to the ROG Zephyrus G14’s 2880 x 1800 OLED display, there’s a bit of a different story to tell. The G14’s OLED is stunning – the colors appear with a vibrancy that the IPS panel on the Blade 14 can’t quite match. The contrast levels—those deep blacks and bright whites—are incredible on the OLED. And though it’s limited to a 120Hz refresh rate, for many, the sheer beauty of the OLED display might be a trade-off worth considering.

However, there’s more to a screen than only these specs. For instance, the Blade 14’s IPS panel has its own perks. High refresh rates are great for gaming, yes, but IPS panels are generally more reliable in terms of longevity and don’t suffer from burn damage, which can affect OLED panels. So, if you’re likely to have static images on the screen for extended periods, this could be a decisive factor.

The reality is, while the G14’s OLED might steal the show in a side-by-side comparison for movie watching or general multimedia use, the Blade 14’s display is no slouch. It’s geared towards gamers with its higher refresh rate, thus giving a more fluid experience in visuals. And honestly, as far as LCD panels go, it’s definitely at the top of its class. If it weren’t the case that the contender features advanced OLED technology, I’d have no reservations singing its praises even louder.

The Razer Blade 14 (2024) is packed with solid hardware components that aim to push the limits of what a compact gaming laptop can do. Under the hood, this gaming rig is running an AMD Ryzen 9 8945HS paired with an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 Mobile graphics card. What sets it apart, though, is how Razer manages to squeeze every bit of power out of that RTX 4070.

Razer cranks up the RTX 4070 to a 140-watt TGP—that’s a 115-watt base + a 25-watt ‘afterburner’. That’s something to be praised and far better than what you see in the Zephyrus G14, which sits around 90 watts. And yes, this difference in wattage translates to real-world performance gains. In my tests, the Blade 14 was consistently about 17-18% quicker at 1080p and 13% with better response at 1440p compared to the Zephyrus. That’s good stats, especially if you’re looking to maximize every frame for a competitive edge.

But here’s something else—because the Blade 14 and the G14 have different native resolutions (the Blade 14’s is lower), it means the Razer has fewer pixels to push. This becomes even more apparent when gaming at those native resolutions. So, in terms of raw gaming performance, the Blade 14 is a clear frontrunner.

The AI-powered AMD’s Ryzen 9 8945HS processor inside the Blade 14 holds a good name in the market; it has eight cores and 16 threads, clocking up to 5.2 GHz. That’s a lot of power for mobile video editing, 3D rendering, and, of course, multitasking like a pro. I ran it through some demanding tasks, and it handled them with relative ease, showcasing both its single-threaded and multitasking productivity. Additionally, the Blade 14 contains a dual GPU setup thanks to AMD’s integrated Radeon 780M graphics. It’s a nice backup addition and a power-efficient option that kicks in for less intensive processes, helping save on battery life and reducing heat output. When you’re not pushing the laptop to its maximum limits where you must use the dedicated RTX 4070, this card helps keep things cooler and quieter, which is a big plus in my book.

I’ve put the Razer Blade 14 through its paces, and honestly, it hasn’t missed a beat. It’s all due to its great combo of the AMD Ryzen 9 8945HS CPU and the RTX 4070 GPU, games like Cyberpunk 2077 ran buttery smooth—no choppiness or annoying screen tearing in sight. I decided to run some Cyberpunk benchmark tests in different graphics settings. Starting with the options by keeping the ray tracing at a minimum, it decently clocked in at an average of 75 FPS. And when I cranked it up to Ultra settings with ray tracing enabled, it still performed well, giving frame rates between 50-60.

In my experience, the Blade 14 manages its thermals impressively well, considering the powerhouse hardware it’s equipped with. What’s really interesting about the Blade 14 is how it balances performance with cooling. Despite running the RTX 4070 at 140 watts, it doesn’t turn into a miniature space heater. Razer has designed a cooling system that includes a densely packed motherboard with a dual fan setup, which is quite impressive for its size. Peeking inside, you can see the meticulous design intended to maximize airflow and cooling efficiency.

Now, as for the noise—it’s there. When you’re pushing the laptop hard, the fans are audible, but honestly, it’s nothing out of the ordinary for gaming laptops. In fact, I didn’t find it much louder than the Zephyrus G14 at the higher tilt. It’s a trade-off, right? You’re getting top-quality performance, so a bit of fan noise in the heat of battle is to be expected.

Razer has historically done well in the battery department, but the Blade 14 takes it a step further. In the 3DMark battery test, it did beat the Zephyrus G14. By keeping the brightness low and without RGB lighting, it proves the Razor’s claim of 10 hours of battery life for this laptop. These are some standout numbers for a gaming laptop. The Razer Blade 14 delivers performance beyond just gaming—it’s reliable enough for routine work, whether you’re knocking out work assignments or powering through college projects. It’s the kind of laptop that won’t let you down, no matter what you throw at it.

Portability is another strong point for the Blade 14. Despite its robust build and cooling needs, it’s still fairly easy to carry around. It’s a bit thicker and slightly heavier than some of its competitors, but there is a difference of a few millimeters and grams—it’s nothing that would deter you from throwing it into a backpack and heading out. This slight increase in size is a reasonable compromise for the cooling performance and battery life it delivers. And speaking of heading out, the Blade 14 comes with a compact 230W power brick that, while proprietary, is amazingly small for the amount of power it delivers. It’s designed to be on the move, without you having to constantly worry about where the nearest power outlet is.

One of the things I always check in a laptop is how easy it is to upgrade and maintain. After all, you want your investment to last and adapt as your needs change. The Razer Blade 14 (2024) gives you a bit of room to work with here. Right after opening the back case, I found access to both the single NVMe slot and dual SO-DIMM slots for RAM right above the 68.1 WHr battery. It’s nice to see that you can boost the memory if needed, our reviewed model includes 32GB of DDR5 alongside 1TB SSD, which is generous but possibly not overkill for future needs.

A 2TB drive would have been more appropriate for a laptop at this price point. Unfortunately, with only one SSD slot, upgrading means replacing the existing drive rather than simply adding more storage. It means you need to spend on a single 2TB drive which shouldn’t be a problem if there was an extra slot to upgrade it by simply equipping an extra 1TB.

Moving on to something a bit more hands-on: the keyboard and trackpad. From the get-go, I was impressed with the Blade 14’s input hardware. The trackpad, first off, is delightfully responsive. It’s got a nice glass surface that translates even the slightest flick of your finger into a smooth motion on the screen. It’s larger than what you might expect in a 14-inch model, giving you plenty of room to maneuver.

The keyboard is equally commendable. The keys have generous spacing, which is a big deal on a more compact model where keys can often feel cramped. The typing experience is comfortable, and I didn’t notice any issues with missed keystrokes, which can sometimes happen with smaller laptops. Moreover, the backlighting is what you’d expect from Razer—subtle but effective, perfect for late-night gaming or typing sessions.

With a price tag of $2,700, the Blade 14 is definitely positioned at the premium end of the market. Now, for that money, you’re getting good performance, great build quality, a solid display, and good battery life. But how does that stack up against the competition? If you’re after the absolute best performance in a 14-inch form factor and value the Razer brand and its design ethos, perhaps that price premium is justified. However, if you’re more price-sensitive and looking for value, then the Zephyrus G14 might make more sense financially.

Buy If...
 • Performance is your top priority: If you need the absolute best performance you can get in a 14-inch laptop, particularly if you’re focusing on gaming, the Blade 14 is the way to go. It comes with higher wattage and better thermals to squeeze every bit of power from its components.
 • You appreciate a blend of premium design and durability: For those who care about aesthetics as much as performance, the Blade 14 offers a solid build, a sleek design, and a trusted brand name that stands out in both boardrooms and gaming dens.
Don’t Buy If...
 • You want the best value for money: If your primary concern is getting the most out of every dollar, the Razer Blade 14 might not be for you. It’s pricier than its peers, and while it offers premium performance, similar results can be had for less.
 • You prioritize a higher-resolution OLED display: If display quality trumps other considerations, and you’re looking for the deep contrast and vibrant color of an OLED, you might find the Zephyrus G14 more to your liking.

Imagine if Evil Dead 2 wasn’t a sequel but a sort of do-over with a fatter wallet—that’s sort of what we’re dealing with in Dragon’s Dogma 2. Capcom’s original cult classic has gotten a facelift, but the sequel sticks closely to the original blueprint, sporting the same enthralling action design and the rich, though often cryptic, world that fans loved. Just like the classic title, this isn’t a game that holds your hand. From the get-go, it throws you into the deep end with tough creature fights that demand you learn fast or die trying. And yes, it’s a bit janky. The game’s various systems feel like they’re held together by duct tape at times, making for some odd, sometimes frustrating moments that somehow add to its charm. You’d think it’s all going to fall apart, but it never really does.

This time around, we’re in a new, wide dark fantasy universe. It’s a bit different from the previous, but it’s just as filled with secrets and hidden areas that only reveal themselves to those adventurous enough to stray off the beaten track. What struck me the most was how each conversation with fellow players unearthed something I had completely missed in my initial playthrough. It’s that kind of depth that makes exploring Dragon’s Dogma 2 as dangerous as it is intriguing—wandering through its lush forests and craggy peaks is no Sunday park stroll. It’s clear that the developers want you to feel the intensity of every battle, and boy, do they succeed.

DD2 feels familiar yet fresh, with enough old-school toughness to satisfy hardcore fans and enough chaos and unpredictability to keep things interesting. Venturing from one quest point to another can genuinely feel like a perilous journey. The terrain plays a crucial role in the gameplay, challenging you at every step. The enemies, especially, deserve a shoutout. They aren’t your typical RPG fodder that waits around to be picked off. These beasts are really cunning; wolves, for example, don’t blindly come at you; they strategize, separate you from your team to turn you into lunch. The game doesn’t ease you into these threats but throws you in, expecting you to adapt and overcome—or perish.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 is, without a doubt, one of Capcom’s most ambitious projects to date. This game isn’t just big; it’s dense, filled with opportunities to explore, fight, and get utterly lost—in the best way possible. The game offers ten different vocations, or classes, each bringing a unique flair to the gameplay. Whether you want to crush skulls up close or cast spells from a distance, there’s a style for you. The character creator and pawn system returns from the original game, allowing you a deep level of customization for both your character and your AI companions.

However, not everything in DD2 shines brightly. For starters, despite the power of the RE Engine—which has delivered stunning visuals in other Capcom games—the graphics here can be underwhelming. You might find yourself squinting at textures that seem a decade old or grimacing at frame rate drops during crucial battles. It’s a bit of a letdown, especially when you know what the engine is capable of. The design feels a touch old school, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing unless you’re craving something that breaks the mold. The game doesn’t handhold, and its systems can feel clunky and unforgiving. Some players will revel in this—it’s a challenge, after all—but others might find it more frustrating than fun.

The story in Dragon’s Dogma 2, which, frankly, is a mixed bag.

At its heart, the narrative is about control—both losing it and seizing it back. You play as an Arisen, a chosen individual marked by destiny after a dragon steals your heart (literally, not romantically). The storyline weaves through the kingdoms of Vermund and Battahl, where you find yourself smack in the middle of royal intrigue and power struggles.

The start of DD2 storyline

The plot kicks off when the queen, fearing the loss of her power, wipes your memory and throws you into a prison camp. As you escape and begin to get back your lost memories, you uncover and attempt to thwart the schemes of the queen and other power-hungry figures. It’s a classic setup with a nice twist: exploring themes of free will and predestination, thanks to the unique dynamics of the Pawn system—beings who can hop between universes and are bound to the Arisen.

However, where the narrative stumbles is in its execution. The game leverages the RE Engine, which you might recognize from some other visually stunning titles like Resident Evil Remake and Street Fighter 6. Unfortunately, Dragon’s Dogma 2 doesn’t seem to get the same graphical love. This is particularly evident in the cutscenes and character animations, which can feel clunky and outdated. Bad facial visuals and awkward cinematic framing can pull you out of the moment, making it hard to connect with the characters on screen.

Despite these shortcomings, the storyline does have its moments, especially when it throws difficult choices your way that can affect the outcome of your game’s journey. These decisions help reinforce the themes of autonomy and influence, giving you a sense of agency that’s deeply satisfying in a game about control. While the narrative might not be the sleekest or most cohesive, it does provide a rich backdrop to the game’s world. The plot might take a backseat to exploration and combat for some players, but for those who dig deeper, there’s a rewarding story about reclaiming power and shaping the fate of kingdoms, punctuated by moments of personal choice that can feel all the more powerful amidst the chaos.

Character and Pawn Interaction

One of the most intriguing aspects of Dragon’s Dogma 2 is the interaction between characters and pawns. This system is both a unique feature and a talking point among players for how it shapes the game. First off, pawns are not your ordinary companions. They’re more than just helpers; they’re central to the gameplay and the narrative. These characters can be summoned from other realms, and bring distinct abilities and traits to your party. The cool part is that you can customize your main pawn deeply and recruit additional pawns created by other players.

Dragon's Dogma 2 pawn companion

However, despite their importance, pawns often feel a bit… flat. They’re functional, sure—they fight, they cast spells, they heal—but they lack the personality you might expect from such a pivotal part of the game. They repeat the same lines, and their interactions can feel robotic compared to the more dynamic companions you might find in games like Baldur’s Gate 3. There, companions like Karlach, and Shadowheart bring rich backstories and personalities.

In DD2, while it’s fun to play dress-up and skill-set with your pawns, the emotional connection can feel lacking. It’s like crafting a very elaborate chess piece: impressive in function and form but missing a spark of life. This isn’t to say it’s not enjoyable to create and interact with them—there’s a definite joy in seeing a pawn you’ve customized from scratch perform perfectly in battle—but the bonds formed are more strategic than emotional.

Yet, this system has its advantages. The very fact that you can shape these pawns so extensively allows you to craft stories of your own. Each pawn can become a hero in their own right, depending on how you equip and use them. While the pawns in Dragon’s Dogma 2 might not tug at your heartstrings, they play a crucial role in both the combat system and the game’s overarching theme of control. If you’re looking for guys who feel like old friends, you might find this aspect a bit wanting. But if you appreciate the tactical depth they bring to the table, you’ll find plenty to like here.

World Building and Exploration

Exploring the world of DD2

Dragon’s Dogma 2 serves up a sprawling, beautifully chaotic world that’s just begging to be explored. It’s a journey across two vividly realized lands—Vermund and Battahl—each brimming with its secrets, dangers, and stories. Vermund is lush and mountainous, dotted with dense forests and hidden caves. It’s the type of place where you feel the crunch of leaves underfoot and the mysterious rustle of the trees above. It’s an explorer’s paradise, with paths that twist and turn, leading to unexpected encounters and hidden treasures. Battahl, on the other hand, is starkly different with its tough deserts and sparse vegetation, presenting a brutal challenge with fewer places to rest and more enemies lurking around each dune.

Travel in DD2 isn’t just about getting from point A to point B; it’s about surviving the trip. There are no convenient rides to speed you on your way. Fast travel is only if you can find the limited resources to make it happen, or if you dare to hitch a ride on an oxcart, which could be attacked with creatures at any moment. Every step outside the safety of town walls is a gamble, and that’s what makes it a more tough adventure.

Just like prepping for a D&D session, I was investing heaps of time getting my character and pawns ready for whatever Dragon’s Dogma 2 threw at us. I knew we were bound to bump into some serious dangers out there, but being prepared made all the difference. The game lets you pick from 10 unique vocations, each with its style of play, which spices things up. My go-to was the Mystic Spearhand—a killer mix of magic and melee that let me stun my foes before landing a devastating blow. Plus, I had other tricks up my sleeve like boosting my health or even going temporarily invincible. It’s all about using the right skills at the right time.

You have to plan each expedition carefully, considering everything from which pawns to bring along to how many healing items you’ll need – preparation is key to survival. Each journey feels massive, fraught with potential danger and reward, making even simple quests hard to survive. The world of Dragon’s Dogma 2 is not just a backdrop for action; it actively participates in the narrative. The environment challenges you, surprises you, and sometimes, even overwhelms you. This dynamic interaction between the player and the game world enhances the sense of realism and urgency in every task you undertake.

If you’re looking for battles that feel like they have weight and consequences, you’re in for a treat.

The combat in Dragon’s Dogma 2 is tactile and kinetic. This means every clash of swords, every dodge, and every spell cast feels grounded and real. There’s a visceral pleasure in the physicality of the battles. You can almost feel the resistance when your blade meets armor or the shockwave of a powerful spell. The developers have done a tremendous job of making each encounter feel like a life-or-death struggle, which is exactly what you want in a dark fantasy world teeming with dangers.

The combat in this game makes each battle come alive. Imagine you’re up against a dragon and there’s not a boulder in sight. No worries! You can magically create an ice wall, smash it to pieces, and chuck those icy chunks at your foes. It’s pretty awesome because every monster fight is an opportunity to try something new. Plus, the quick and simple change between your vocations and swapping in new pawns keeps your team dynamic and fresh.

Beating a monster by climbing on it in Dragon's Dogma 2.

The Archers—they’re super precise, easily targeting the vulnerable spots of enemies and then swiftly dodging danger. Sorcerers are like wielding the power of gods, whipping up huge tornadoes, or crafting those ice walls I mentioned earlier. These can strategically give you the upper hand like creating high ground for a dramatic jump-and-stab attack. And if you’re all about melee, there’s nothing more thrilling than clambering onto a giant beast and finding the ultimate weak spot to hit.

The game pushes you to get creative with your battle tactics, mixing up your skills and the environment in ways that keep the gameplay exciting. However, it’s not always super smooth. Some encounters can be a bit awkward, especially if you’re used to more polished action games. But hey, some might say that’s part of the game’s unique charm and challenge. Just something to keep in mind if you prefer more streamlined gameplay.

Verdict

Dragon’s Dogma 2 is a stunning release that mixes incredible new ideas with some old annoyances. It brings back the dynamic world and stellar combat of the 2012 original, complete with a cleverly integrated physics system that adds a lot of depth. However, it also revives some less beloved aspects: the AI can be a bit of a headache, climbing feels awkward, the camera sometimes chooses the worst moments to spin out of control and the fps tends to stutter. While Dragon’s Dogma 2 struggles with some technical aspects, the game still manages to create a compelling world worth exploring. Yes, the graphical and performance issues are a setback, but they don’t completely overshadow the creativity and depth that the game offers. For those who can look past these technical shortcomings, there’s a rich and engaging adventure waiting in the wings. It’s a reminder that sometimes, the heart of a game lies in its ambition and scope, not just its polish.

Logitech’s G502 line has been a big hit among gamers, especially those who love a good FPS genre. The design is ergonomic, fitting comfortably in your hand and offering many customizable options. I mean, there’s even a special thumb button specifically for lowering your DPI to get that perfect shot.

Buy It Now:

Logitech hasn’t been resting on its laurels. In 2021, they rolled out the G502 X, giving this already awesome Logitech gaming mouse a fresh coat of look and some good upgrades. But the real star of the show is the Logitech G502 X Plus – the G502 Lightspeed’s cooler, younger sibling. It’s lighter, boasts a greater battery, and a stunning RGB light. That’s right, it’s not just about performance; this mouse makes a statement with style.

You might be thinking, “Okay, but is it really that different from its predecessor?” Well, on one hand, you could argue that it’s not a groundbreaking departure. But on the other hand, it’s an advanced model of a previously top-notch mouse. After the Logitech G502 raised the standard, the G502 X Plus added a little more brilliance. Whether you’re talking about the G502 X Plus or not, it has undergone several noticeable changes to its design, and the majority of them are aesthetic. Despite being narrower and lighter than the G502 Lightspeed, it manages to feel nearly identical when held, which is a positive aspect. Those long hours spent gaming will be much more comfortable with the rounded form.

Logitech G502 X Plus: Design and Ergonomics

G502 X Plus has a sleek, modern layout that just screams awesome.
G502 X Plus has a sleek, modern layout that just screams awesome.

G502 X Plus’s got a sleek, modern vibe that just screams high-tech. But what’s really cool is how it feels when you hold it. You know that feeling when something just seems right in your hand? That’s the G502 X Plus for you.

Now, let’s talk about size and weight. This mouse is like the Goldilocks of gaming mice – not too big, not too small. It measures 3.13 x 5.25 x 1.63 inches and weighs around 3.7 ounces. If you’ve ever held the G502 Lightspeed, it’s a bit like that, but lower in weight and a bit larger. It’s amazing how they’ve managed to shave off some weight without compromising on that solid, quality feel.

The ergonomic design is something else, it has this curvy shape that molds to your hand. You know how after a long gaming session your hand can feel cramped? But with the G502 X Plus, it’s like your hand is getting a gentle hug the whole time. It’s super comfy for those long stretches of playing or even just regular computer use.

But let’s not forget the star of the show – the RGB light bar kinda like a neon sign lighting up the palm rest, adding a dash of personality to your gaming setup. On the white model especially, it looks incredibly sharp. It’s purely a cosmetic feature, but it’s one of those things that makes you smile when you see it. And let’s be honest, who doesn’t love a bit of RGB in their life?

The ergonomic design of the G502 X Plus is top-notch, the company took an already great model and thought, “How can we make this even more comfortable and cool-looking?” And they nailed it. It’s stylish, comfortable, and feels like a natural extension of your hand. What more could you ask for in a gaming mouse?

Logitech G502 X Plus: Customizability

The G502 X Plus is like a Swiss Army knife for your hand with a total of 12 inputs, and almost all of them are customizable. There are nine buttons on top, including the usual suspects like left and right click, a scroll wheel that clicks and tilts, a couple of buttons in the center, and two extra buttons on the left edge. Not to mention the usual forward and back buttons on the side, and there is an FPS sniper click beneath your thumb.

Now, about those buttons – some of them have gotten a bit of a makeover. Take the sniper button, for example, it has transformed into a clicky paddle, complete with an angled surface that is ergonomically designed to fit the thumb of the user. In a high-pressure situation, these minor adjustments might make all the difference. In addition, the left-side controls are now elevated, making thumb rolls over them a breeze. It’s all about ensuring every action is at your fingertips.

The number of inputs might sound like overkill for a non-MMO mouse, but it’s a game-changer. Having all these options means you can tailor the mouse to fit your gaming style perfectly. Whether you’re mapping out complex macros or just want easy access to your most-used commands, this mouse has got you covered. Overall, the customizability and inputs on the G502 X Plus are a dream for gamers who love to fine-tune their setup. It’s not just about having a bunch of buttons – it’s about having the right buttons, in the right places, with the right feel. And that’s something the G502 X Plus delivers in spades.

It offers wide customization options and new opto-mechanical switches to suit any gamer’s needs.
It offers wide customization options and new opto-mechanical switches to suit any gamer’s needs.

Logitech G502 X Plus: Technical Enhancements

Logitech didn’t only give this mouse a new coat of paint; they’ve packed in some serious technological wizardry. The big headline here is the introduction of Logitech’s “Lightforce” opto-mechanical switches. Rather than the average mouse clicks, what you get is a mechanical switch for that satisfying clicky feel, but it operates your input with a laser.

Why go through all this trouble with lasers, you ask? It’s all about speed and durability. These optical switches can cut out those tiny fractions of a second of latency. We’re talking microseconds here, but in the heat of a gaming session, every microsecond counts. Further, they’re touted to last longer, which means your beloved mouse is less likely to give up on you when you need it most.

You might not see a huge difference in your daily use. But it’s one of those subtle enhancements that, over time, add to your overall experience. The switch adjustments in the G502 X Plus aren’t about keeping up with the Joneses, but they can give you a slight edge, making sure your mouse is as responsive and durable as it can be.

Logitech G502 X Plus: Battery Life

Let’s talk about something very important for any wireless device – battery life and charging. The G502 X Plus has some pretty impressive stats in this department, and if you’re someone who forgets to charge their devices (like me sometimes), you will appreciate this.

The G502 X Plus is like the marathon runner of gaming mice. Without the RGB lighting on, this mouse can go for around 130 hours. That’s like, what, over five days of non-stop gaming? Compare that to the Razer DeathAdder V3 Pro, which clocks in around 90 hours, or even the older G502 Lightspeed at 60 hours, and you can see why I’m impressed.

But we want that RGB lighting on, right? With the lights blazing, the battery life drops to around 40 hours, which honestly, still isn’t shabby. It’s enough to get you through a few heavy playthroughs without worrying about your mouse dying mid-battle. During my use, I found that I was charging the mouse roughly every week or so with the RGB running at the extreme. Not too bad, considering how much it adds to my gaming ambiance.

If you connect the G502 X Plus to the Logitech G Powerplay charging mousepad, you can juice up it continuously and enjoy everlasting battery life. The mouse charges while you’re using it – it’s amazing. But if you’re not about that life, no worries, this gaming mouse has a USB-C charging port—an improvement over the Lightspeed’s Micro USB. USB-C means faster charging and no fumbling around trying to plug it in the right way.

G502 X Plus's got great battery life and comes with a few feature adjustments.
G502 X Plus has great battery life and comes with a few feature adjustments.

Logitech G502 X Plus: Simplification and Feature Adjustments

Logitech has done some streamlining and made a few adjustments to this mouse, focusing on both what to add and what to trim down. First off, some of the little features have been revamped. Remember those indicator lights on the G502 Lightspeed that showed which configuration profile you were using? They’ve been replaced.

Now, there’s a more subtle indicator light atop the scroll wheel; it’s your mouse’s way of giving you a discreet nod to let you know you’ve switched profiles or DPI settings. It’s a small change, but it adds to the mouse’s sleek look while still keeping you in the loop. Then there are the new grips of rubber surface on the sides, these let the mouse stay put in your hand, even during those high-intensive gaming moments. It’s all about making sure you have control and comfort, and these grips are a nice touch in that direction.

But, not everything is about adding but sometimes, taking away is just as important – the adjustable weight system from the Logitech G502 is gone in this model. In this competitive world, the trend is toward lighter mice, and let’s be honest, those tiny weights were kind of a hassle, easy to lose, and added an extra amount. So, if you like to make weight adjustments by yourself, you might want to cling to the previous mouse. But for most users, this modification is a welcome change.

In essence, these tweaks in the G502 X Plus are about refining what’s already a great mouse. It’s like Logitech listened to what gamers love and what they don’t need, and then adjusted accordingly. The result is a mouse that’s modern, sleek, and more user-friendly, without losing any of its charm or functionality.

If you’re the kind of person who loves to tinker and tailor every aspect of your gaming setup, you will have a field day with this. Logitech G Hub is your command center for the G502 X Plus where you can get into the options of customizing this mouse. You can manually assign the functions to its 11 buttons as per your preferences. Whether you want a button to open a specific program, execute a complex in-game macro, or just do something simple, G Hub’s got you covered.

Of course, we can’t forget about the RGB customization. The G502 X Plus has a gorgeous RGB light bar, and G Hub lets you play around with it. You can choose from presets or get creative and make your own lighting pattern. If you’re already in the Logitech ecosystem, G Hub will feel like familiar territory. But if you’re new to it, don’t worry, it’s known for being one of the most user-friendly, intuitive software out there for configuring gaming peripherals.

How does the G502 X Plus perform in the heat of gaming battle, and what’s it like to use daily? Spoiler alert: it’s pretty awesome. Firstly, the comfort level of this mouse is through the roof. It’s designed to fit greatly in your hand, making it feel like a natural extension of yourself. I’ve spent hours playing games like Call of Duty, Fortnite, Baldur’s Gate 3, and Apex Legends, and not once did my hand feel like it was cramping up or getting tired. It was something like having a comfy gaming glove that also clicks and scrolls.

The lightweight design is another plus feature here, especially when you need to make quick, precise movements. It glides over the mouse pad like it’s on air, making it super easy to react in a flash. No matter if you are lining up a sniper shot or navigating through a complex RPG map, the G502 X Plus responds according to what you expect.

For the buttons and inputs, having all the customizable options at your fingertips is similar to a DJ at a mixing desk – you have total control. I found myself assigning game-specific actions to different buttons, which streamlined my gameplay. Actions like reloading or using special abilities suddenly became much more intuitive and, dare I say, fun. The Hero 25K sensor deserves a shoutout too as this thing is accurate, I mean, pinpoint precision. This sensor, combined with the fast response of the Lightforce switches, makes for a killer combo. Sure, the switches might not make you a pro gamer overnight, but they offer a satisfying click and feel very responsive.

In short, the Logitech G502 X Plus mouse checks all the boxes. It’s comfortable, customizable, and performs like a champ. It’s the kind of mouse that once you get used to, you can’t imagine gaming without. It doesn’t just do its job; it elevates your entire playing session. Be a casual gamer or someone who takes the playtime seriously, the G502 X Plus is a solid ally to have in your corner.

Logitech G502 X Plus Review Verdict

Is it worth your hard-earned cash? The G502 X Plus is, without a doubt, an impressive piece of gaming gadget. Logitech took an already fantastic mouse and thought, “How can we make this even better?” And they pretty much nailed it. From its sleek and modern look with that snazzy RGB lighting to thoughtful tweaks and upgrades, it’s clear this mouse was designed with serious gamers in mind.

It’s not just about looks, this gaming mouse is a powerhouse when it comes to performance. The comfort level is top-notch, thanks to its ergonomic design. You can game for hours without feeling like your hand’s gone through a workout. With the customizable inputs and the precision of the Hero 25K sensor, you’re in total control of every move. The tech upgrades, like the Lightforce switches, might not be something you’ll notice in every click, but they add to the overall premium feel of the mouse. Moreover, the battery lifespan is also great, even when the RGB lighting is making scenes in your room.

But it’s an incremental upgrade; if you already have a G502, you might not feel a pressing need to upgrade unless you’re a die-hard fan of the series or want that extra RGB flair. However, if you’re in the market for a new gaming mouse, the G502 X Plus is worth considering. It’s a solid investment that’ll likely keep you happy and in the game for a good long while.

Corsair M75 Wireless: Design and Build

If you’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting the M75 Air, you’ll notice the family resemblance right away with the M75 Wireless. But this isn’t just a case of “like a parent, like a child” – think of it more as “like the cool older sibling who went off to college and came back with a bunch of cool new tricks.”

Front view of Corsair M75 Wireless

First off, this latest unit weighs 89 grams, which is a step up from the Air’s feathery 60 grams. This extra weight gives the mouse a more substantial, grounded feel, kind of like it’s always ready to spring into action but won’t fly off the desk if you sneeze. For those in the FPS crowd, this might sound like a deal-breaker, but it’s all about balance, and the M75 Wireless balances like a pro on a tightrope.

Let’s talk about colorful lights because everything’s better with a bit of RGB flair. The M75 Wireless sports two glowing RGB strips along its back, wrapping around a Corsair logo that also glows. It’s the kind of touch that makes the white model I’ve been testing not just a mouse, but a statement piece on my desk. And yes, for the tinkerers out there, you can customize this light show in two zones using Corsair’s iCue software.

Design-wise, this mouse is like that one friend who’s comfortable in any social situation. Its shape is a dream for palm or claw grippers, with a generously humped middle easing into more relaxed slopes towards the front and back. It’s slightly bigger, reminding me of the Razer Naga V2 Pro but without making your hand stretch uncomfortably for those crucial clicks.

Bottom end of M75 gaming mouse with its features.

At the bottom part of the mouse, you’ll find a couple of buttons for DPI adjustments and switching connections, alongside PTFE feet that glide smoother than a hot knife through butter. And yes, there’s a spot to tuck the USB-A dongle away because nobody likes to lose those tiny things. In a nutshell, the Corsair M75 Wireless looks good, feels good, and despite a minor fashion faux pas or two, it’s a solid companion.

Corsair M75 Wireless: Features

The big headline here is the ambidextrous design. That’s right, left-handers rejoice. You’re no longer left out of the high-end mouse game. The M75 Wireless doesn’t just pay lip service to ambidexterity; it fully embraces it with a set of side buttons on both flanks. Plus, Corsair throws in a set of swappable caps so you can customize the side buttons to your heart’s content, making it a real deal for southpaws and righties alike.

The centerpiece is its Marksman sensor, boasting a 26K DPI at 650 IPS. This means it’s sharp, accurate, and won’t miss a beat, even if you’re someone who likes to flick-shot your way through FPS games or meticulously plan every move in a strategy title. While some mice might offer greater numbers, the truth is that most of us won’t notice the difference unless we’re playing at a professional level. The M75 keeps up with the best of them, ensuring your cursor is always where you need it to be.

Black and white color Corsair M75 wireless gaming mouse

Now, onto the programmable buttons—or, should I say, the somewhat lacking array of them. In an age where more is often considered better, the M75 Wireless plays it a bit too safe for my liking. Sure, you’ve got the basics covered, but in a world where gaming mice are bristling with buttons like a medieval knight in armor, the M75 feels a little…underdressed. A sniper button or a DPI shifter built into the main body would’ve been available adding that extra layer of versatility for the cost.

One of my personal favorites is the on-the-fly DPI shifting. Forget about diving into software settings mid-game. With the M75, a simple hold of the DPI button and a press of the side buttons lets you change your mouse sensitivity without missing a beat. It’s a gear shift for your mouse, allowing you to adapt on the fly whether you’re lining up a sniper shot or going through a chaotic battlefield.

Regarding the battery life, Corsair claims up to 105 hours, and while your mileage may vary depending on how much you love your RGB light shows, even with the lights on, I found myself going days without needing a charge. It’s the kind of endurance that makes you wonder whether the mouse has secretly tapped into some infinite energy source. So, while the M75 Wireless might not have a button for every function under the sun, it offers a thoughtful selection of features that are crafted for a wide range of gamers.

Corsair M75 Wireless: Performance

The M75 Wireless is definitely worth a look regarding its performance.

The M75 Wireless, with its slightly heftier design and refined ergonomics, feels like it was born to thrive in the vast landscapes of action-adventure games. But what about the high-octane world of first-person shooters or the strategic depths of MOBAs? Despite its weightier presence, the M75 Wireless doesn’t shy away from a challenge. Yes, the extra grams make it a tad less nimble than its ultralight cousins, but it’s no slouch. The precision and responsiveness of that Marksman sensor ensure that whether you’re making split-second decisions in Call of Duty or lining up the perfect shot in CS:GO, the M75 is up to the task.

Speaking of precision, the glide on this mouse is something to write home about. Thanks to those PTFE feet, it moves across surfaces with the grace of a figure skater, making even the smallest adjustments effortless. Combine that with the larger form factor, and you’ve got a mouse that hits the perfect spot between speed and control.

Furthermore, the M75 Wireless comes with Quickstrike switches that are, in a word, satisfying. There’s a certain joy in hearing that crisp click sound as you execute commands, and this Corsair gaming mouse delivers that in spades. Each click is fast, responsive, and, most importantly, feels consistent. Whether you’re spamming clicks in a heated battle or carefully selecting units in a strategy game, the M75 has tactile feedback that feels good.

So, where does that leave us? The Corsair M75 Wireless might carry a bit more weight and have a few less buttons than some would like, but it more than makes up for it in the performance department. Its sensor accuracy, comfortable design, and quality build make it a formidable companion for a wide range of gaming adventures. Sure, if you’re solely into FPS games or need a mouse that doubles as a mini keyboard for MMOs, there might be better-suited options out there. But for everyone else looking for a reliable, versatile gaming mouse that feels great to use, the M75 Wireless is worth a look.

Final Verdict

If you’ve already used the M75 Air, you might be wondering if it’s worth making the switch to the Wireless version. Here’s the deal: if you’re looking for that ultralight life and your gaming strategy leans heavily towards fast-paced FPS games, the Air might still be your best bet. But if you’re looking for a mouse that seems more substantial in your hand and offers those sweet, sweet RGB lights plus ambidextrous support, the M75 Wireless is calling your name. It’s not a revolutionary step up, but it’s like upgrading from a perfectly good gear to the latest model—you might not need it, but it sure is nice to have.

Alternatively, if you want a mouse with quicker response, Razer’s Viper Ultimate might edge out the Corsair products. Both are great, but one is built for speed while the other offers a bit more comfort and style. The Viper Ultimate is lighter and comes with a wireless charging cradle, making it a solid pick for those who value agility above all else. However, it’s also a more pricier, so you’re paying a premium for that performance boost.

In the grand scheme of things, choosing the right mouse comes down to what feels right in your hand and matches your gaming style. The M75 Wireless is a jack-of-all-trades, offering a comfortable grip, solid performance, and enough RGB to keep your setup looking sharp. It is like that reliable friend who might not always steal the spotlight but is always there when you need them. It might not be the ultimate choice for hardcore FPS fans or MMO gamers who need more buttons than a spaceship control panel, but for everyone else, it’s a contender worth considering.

Razer, as you probably know, is like that friend who always has cool gadgets and gizmos. They’re known for rolling out top-tier stuff that makes gamers’ hearts beat faster, and the Razer Huntsman V3 Pro TKL is the exact release. This keyboard is like a love letter to pro gamers, packed with glowing endorsements from eSports legends and built especially for pro gamers. It’s not just about looking cool (though it does that in spades) – it’s about giving you the edge in performance, with features like rapid-fire mode and adjustable actuation that feel like they’re straight out of a sci-fi novel.

Now, it’s not all roses and sunshine; this beauty comes with a premium price tag, and its list of features might be a tad overwhelming for the casual clicker. But for those in search of a quality tenkeyless gaming keyboard that feels as good as it looks, the Huntsman V3 Pro TKL might just be the new best gear you didn’t know you needed.

Razer isn’t just throwing one size fits all at us; they’ve got a little something for everyone with three different configurations. First up, we have the star of our show, the tenkeyless model. This sleek number is what we’re talking about today. It ditches the number pad for a more compact design, perfect for those of us who need a bit more desk space or prefer mobility. Coming in at $219 on Razer’s store, it also throws in a palm rest for that extra bit of comfort during those marathon gaming sessions.

But if you’re the type who can’t part with your number pad, Razer’s got you covered with the full Pro version. For an extra thirty bucks ($249), you get all the bells and whistles of the TKL, plus the added bonus of a number pad. And for the minimalists out there, the Mini might just be your speed. This compact dynamo is a 60% keyboard, which means it says goodbye to not only the number pad but also ditches the FN keys. It’s the most budget-friendly of the bunch at $179, perfect for those looking to save some space and some cash.

So, whether you’re all about that tenkeyless lifestyle, need every key you can get your hands on, or are looking to minimalist your desk, Razer’s got an option for you – each one is designed to fulfill different needs and preferences.

Design and Build Quality

If you’re expecting something wildly different from the usual gaming keyboard or Razer’s signature style, you might be slightly disappointed. The Huntsman V3 Pro TKL sticks to a familiar script with its sleek, black design. But, don’t get me wrong, this isn’t your run-of-the-mill black keyboard. What sets it apart is the touch of elegance it brings to your desk with its brushed dark gray aluminum alloy base. It’s like that one piece of furniture that instantly elevates the look of your entire room. And let’s not forget about the per-key RGB lighting – a staple for gaming gear that adds that personalized touch to your setup.

One of my favorite features is the leatherette palmrest, it feels simply great. It attaches magnetically to the keyboard, snapping into place with such ease that you’ll wonder why everything isn’t this simple. It’s these small, thoughtful design choices that make the Huntsman V3 Pro TKL stand out.

As for the layout, it’s a tenkeyless design, meaning you won’t find a number pad here. But, it’s packed with everything else you’d need, including a dedicated space for arrow keys, a handy volume dial, a couple of extra buttons (one of which is a shortcut to the Xbox Game Bar by default), and a set of editing keys like Insert and Home. It’s a full keyboard experience minus the number pad, adjusting perfectly to those who prioritize desk space without compromising on functionality.

But, before you cut the cord with your current keyboard, note that the Huntsman V3 Pro TKL is not wireless. It connects via a USB Type-C cable, which is a small trade-off for the reliability and speed of a wired connection. So, if you want that clutter-free life, you might have to make a slight adjustment here.

Features and Functionality

This keyboard doesn’t just rest on its good looks; it comes with all the features that make it a powerhouse for gamers and typists alike. Ever forget which keys do what when you’re holding down the FN key? This keyboard’s got you covered. Holding FN lights up all the special keys you can use for different actions, making life a whole lot easier. Plus, there’s an LED display right above the arrow keys that not only shows when caps lock is on (because who hasn’t shouted in the text by accident?) but also helps you navigate through various keyboard settings.

Now, for the tech-savvy folks out there, the adjustable actuation force feature is something to geek out over. This isn’t only about how hard you need to press a key before it registers; it’s about fine-tuning your keyboard to match your exact touch. Want a feather-light touch? Set it to 0.1 millimeters. Prefer a bit more resistance? Crank it up to 3.6mm or even 4.0mm using the Razer Synapse app.

Speaking of customization, let’s not skip over the Rapid Trigger mode – this feature is a nitrous boost for your keystrokes. It adjusts the reset point of your keys, so you can fire them off faster than ever. Perfect for the intense gaming moments or if you’re passionate about fast typing. And for those who love to stay in control, the keyboard includes a Gaming Mode activated by pressing FN and F10. Say goodbye to accidentally hitting the Windows key and getting yanked out of your game. Moreover, there’s a Macro mode for recording the complex sequences of actions you need to execute with just a press of a button, press FN and F9 to enable it.

This unit scales at 3.72 pounds, packed with features that justify every ounce. At its heart, you’ve got Razer’s 2nd generation Analog Optical Switches – these are built for speed and precision, with Rapid Trigger compatibility that’s like having a turbo button under your fingertips. Further, its switches are designed to last with a total 100-million keystroke lifespan. You can game hard for years, and this keyboard will keep bouncing back for more. The keys themselves are something special. They’re made from textured doubleshot PBT, giving them a durable, high-quality feel that’s as satisfying to touch as it is tough. Every keystroke feels solid and premium, just like the keyboard’s cost suggests.

Razer Huntsman V3 Pro TKL isn’t just a feast for the eyes; it’s a tool that’s been thoughtfully designed with gamers and heavy keyboard users in mind. It brings together a mix of high-tech features and user-friendly functionality that makes it a strong peripheral. With this keyboard, you will be able to enjoy every moment of the action, customization, and convenience it brings to the table.

Software and Customization

Customizing keyboard with Razer Synapse.

If you thought the onboard customization was impressive, Synapse steps into like a control room with buttons and levers for everything. This software lets you dive deep into the minutiae, making adjustments that can dial in the performance and feel of the keyboard to your exact liking.

Got a favorite game or a specific task that requires a unique setup? Synapse comes pre-loaded with five profiles, including Factory Default, Racing, FPS Rapid Trigger, Analog WASD, and High Sensitivity. These are your starting points, your templates. From here, you can get into the details, like remapping keys, tweaking analog options, and even disabling the Windows shortcuts that can yank you out of the zone.

Whether you want a feather-light touch or something that requires a bit more oomph, you can adjust the actuation for each key or the whole keyboard. And there’s a nice feature that shows a bar moving up and down as you press a key, visualizing the force you’re applying in real-time. But the best part is the Rapid Trigger mode adjustments. With Synapse, you can take this feature to new heights, fine-tuning the upstroke and downstroke sensitivity separately.

For all gamers who love their desk aesthetics as much as their gaming performance, Synapse doesn’t skimp on lighting customization either. From brightness levels to idle effects, you can sync your keyboard lighting with your mood, your game, or even your other Razer gear. In a nutshell, Razer Synapse transforms the Huntsman V3 Pro TKL from a high-performance keyboard into YOUR high-performance keyboard.

Performance and Typing Experience

What’s it actually like to use the Razer Huntsman V3 Pro TKL? Pull up a chair, because I’ve got some thoughts. Firstly, typing on this keyboard feels amazing. There’s something about the clicky feedback and the weight of each keypress that simply feels… right. And that palmrest is the cherry on top. Soft, comfortable, and the right height to keep your wrists happy even during those hours of typing or gaming sessions.

Razer Huntsman V3 Pro TKL Performance Analysis
Image: Razor

While the Huntsman V3 Pro TKL shines bright in its default state, things can get a bit, let’s say, intricate once you start looking at its deeper features. For instance, the FPS Rapid Trigger profile turns off caps lock by default, which is a neat trick until you try to toggle it back on and find yourself in a bit of a puzzle. And then there’s the little adventure of getting the Rapid Trigger mode to register your keypresses. You might find yourself doing a bit of a dance with the Razer Synapse software to get it right. On the bright side, the LED indicators do a stellar job of telling you whether your presses are registering, lighting up in green or red to give you the go-ahead or the stop sign.

Now, let’s talk about gamepad remapping and keyboard analog options because, on paper, these features are the stuff of legend. Imagine using your keyboard as a gamepad, with keys mimicking the nuanced pressure of a joystick. To get the experience and feel, I played Baldur’s Gate 3, but alas, it was more of a tale of lost potential. Despite my best efforts, the dream of seamlessly blending keyboard and gamepad controls remained just that—a dream. It seems there’s still a bit of work to be done in making these innovative features play nice with every game.

But even with these issues, the Huntsman V3 Pro TKL is a strong force in today’s competitive market. It’s like that one friend who’s incredibly talented but has a few quirks you learn to love. The key is patience. With a bit of time and tweaking, you can unlock the full potential of this gaming keyboard, making those frustrating moments only a small bump on the road to gaming and typing bliss. To sum up, the Razer Huntsman V3 Pro TKL is kinda like a high-performance sports car. Sure, there might be a learning curve, and you might have to tinker under the hood now and then, but once you get it humming, it’s an absolute joy to drive. Whether you’re gaming, typing, or admiring it on your desk, this keyboard brings a level of satisfaction and performance that’s hard to beat.

Final Verdict

From the moment you start typing on this keyboard – it’s something like your fingers are doing a happy dance on those nice PBT doubleshot keycaps. And it’s not just about the keys; the whole setup screams quality. We’re talking about a sturdy brushed aluminum alloy base and a very comfy leatherette palmrest which means you’re getting what you paid for. However, there are a bunch of intricate features that might take some time to figure out. But trust me, once you’ve got everything set up the way you like, it’s like the keyboard just gets you. The Huntsman V3 Pro TKL turns into the perfect partner for all your gaming and typing requirements.

So, who is this keyboard for? If you’re a serious gamer or want to have the best gear, this is the keyboard you’ve been looking for. It’s got everything – quick trigger modes, customizable keys, and you can even tweak it to act like a game controller. If you are looking to level up your gaming setup or love top-notch tech, this keyboard is worth every penny. But if you’re more of a casual gamer, shelling out over 200 bucks on this unit might seem a bit much. And that’s fine – there are plenty of other gaming keyboards out there that can do the job without draining your wallet.

At the end of the day, it’s stylish, performs like a dream, and packs in so much innovation. Sure, there might be a few frustrating moments while you’re getting everything to work just right, but the payoff is incredible.

The post Logitech G Pro X TKL Lightspeed Review appeared first on GamesRecon: Video Games News, Guides & Reviews.

]]>
After the success of the Logitech G Pro, the company has released the Logitech G Pro X TKL Lightspeed, an improved version of the original. The replacement of the old plastic keys with PBT ones is an important upgrade. Because of this, the keystrokes are going to last more time and your gear will retain its luster even after many hours of furious typing or gaming every day. Furthermore, You can tell this keyboard is made for highly competitive gamers and esports professionals. Its tiny, tenkeyless design and blazing-fast 1ms report rate demonstrate that Logitech spared no effort in developing the best gaming keyboard.

Additionally, it comes with a wireless feature now, thanks to its Lightspeed tech. It is quite convenient because you can connect it using either Bluetooth or a 2.4GHz dongle. At $199, it’s not the most expensive keyboard out there, but it’s definitely on the pricier side, especially when you think about the other decent keyboards that won’t hit your wallet as hard. So, the big question is, does it live up to its price? Is it good enough to stand among the top gaming keyboards? For the most part, yes, but it’s not without a few ifs and buts.

Design and Build

Logitech G Pro X TKL Lightspeed design screams elegance

The Logitech G Pro X TKL Lightspeed is like the keyboard version of a snazzy, well-fitted suit. It’s sleek, it ditches the number pad for a more compact, tenkeyless look that not only frees up precious desk space but also keeps everything you need right at your fingertips. Other than looking good—it’s practical too, giving you more room for mouse moves during those nail-biting gaming moments or making your gaming setup look neater and more organized.

And the matte finish on this keyboard is something else, especially the white version. It’s got a minimalist, classy vibe that stands out, making it more than just a pretty accessory. Moreover, this keyboard is built tough. With PBT keycaps that are built to last and provide a satisfying feel as you type or game away, the G Pro X TKL Lightspeed is ready for whatever you throw at it.

The design is refreshingly simple, steering clear of the over-the-top look that some gaming keyboards go for. It’s like a throwback to the 90s tech style, but without the outdated beige and with all the cool RGB lighting you could ask for. You can tweak those lights to your heart’s content with the Logitech G Hub, matching your mood or your desk setup. And don’t forget about the sturdy carry case it comes with. Whether you’re off to eSports tournaments or like changing your scenery from a café back to your home office, this keyboard is all set to travel with you.

Key Features

This G Pro X TKL Lightspeed keyboard is pretty much the gamer’s Swiss Army knife, loaded with all the bells and whistles you could want. Whether you’re all about feeling every key press with some tactile feedback, love the smoothness of pressing down a key with no resistance, or crave that classic clicky sound, the G Pro X has got something for you. It comes with GX Brown, GX Red, and GX Blue switches. The GX Browns are kind of the middle-of-the-road option, giving you a nice tactile bump without making a racket—perfect for sneaky in-game missions or when you’ve got to keep it quiet. If you like smooth keystrokes, then the GX Reds are a good option. And for those who love that clicky feedback, the GX Blues will make every press feel like music to your ears.

Highlighted key features of Logitech G Pro X TKL Lightspeed.

The layout is standard, so if you ever want to mix things up with some new caps, it’s super easy to do. Don’t let its compact size fool you; this keyboard is packed with functionality. It’s got media controls, shortcut keys, and pretty much everything else you need within easy reach. And for those who hate cords, the G Pro X shines with its awesome wireless options. You can go with the included Lightspeed dongle for a fast wireless connection or switch to Bluetooth when you’re juggling multiple devices. With the Logitech G Hub software, you can play around with the RGB lighting, set up macros, customize key binds, and pretty much tailor the keyboard to suit your gaming style to a T.

Performance

How does the Logitech G Pro X TKL Lightspeed perform when the rubber meets the road, or, more aptly, when the key meets the finger?

Imagine this: you’re in the middle of an intense gaming session, your fingers are flying across the keyboard, and every millisecond counts; this is where the G Pro X shines. With its 1000Hz polling rate and a 1ms response time, it’s all about speed and reliability. The keyboard is virtually lag-free, whether you’re connected via the Lightspeed wireless tech, Bluetooth, or even the good old-fashioned cable. It’s like being in two places at once; you’re here in the real world but also fully immersed in your game, with no delays or hiccups to get you out of the zone.

Logitech G Pro X TKL Lightspeed Keystrokes Length

But what about the feel? The tactile experience of gaming keyboards – it’s what separates the great from the good. The G Pro X TKL Lightspeed doesn’t disappoint. Whether you opt for the tactile GX Brown, the smooth GX Red, or the clicky GX Blue switches, each press is satisfying. The tactile switches are a particular delight, offering a grippy feel that makes every keystroke distinct and enjoyable.

This keyboard feels like it can take on marathon gaming sessions, the occasional spill, and pretty much anything else you (not literally) throw at it. But, there’s one negative side with the Logitech G Pro X TKL Lightspeed—it’s kind of noisy. Depending on the switches you pick, you might end up providing a constant background soundtrack of clicks and clacks during your playthroughs. It’s something to think about, especially if you’re not the only one in your space. Not everyone might be a fan of your keystroke symphony, you know?

Software and Customization

G Pro X TKL Lightspeed Customization with G Hub Software

You can tweak the RGB lighting to match your setup or mood with just a few clicks. Want a serene blue glow for a chill gaming session? The options are there. How about a vibrant spectrum wave for those high-energy moments? You got it. The G Hub software makes these changes as easy as pie, letting you play with a rainbow of colors and effects that can breathe new life into your gaming space.

The real magic happens when you start customizing key bindings and macros. Have a complex combo move that you want to execute with a single press? The G Hub software lets you assign it to any key you choose. This level of customization is great, especially in competitive gaming where every second counts.

And for those who love to dive deep, the Logitech G Hub doesn’t disappoint. You can adjust everything from the brightness of the lights to the behavior of specific keys, ensuring that your keyboard performs exactly how you need it to. Activating game mode with a click, changing lighting effects, or tweaking the functions of the F-Row are all within your reach, making the G Pro X TKL Lightspeed not just a tool, but an extension of your gaming persona. The beauty of the software lies in its balance between depth and accessibility. It caters to both the tinkerers who love to fine-tune every detail and the gamers who prefer a more straightforward, plug-and-play experience.

Comparison with Competitors

The gaming keyboard market is fierce, with contenders like Razer, Corsair, and SteelSeries flexing their mechanical muscles, each boasting features designed to lure you in. The Logitech G Pro X TKL Lightspeed jumps into the fray with its wireless prowess and sleek design. It’s a strong start, but how does it hold up when you pit it against, say, Razer’s Huntsman or Corsair’s K70? These keyboards often come with their own set of bells and whistles, like adjustable actuation points or more aggressive RGB lighting schemes. They’re the kind of features that can make a gamer’s heart race a little faster, wondering if they’re missing out.

Top front view of keyboard.

Yet, the G Pro X holds its ground with a focus on durability and portability, thanks to those PBT keycaps and the included carry case. It’s a nod to the gamers on the move, offering a blend of performance and practicality that’s not always front and center with its rivals. Sure, some may offer more in the way of customization or flashier designs, but Logitech’s contender brings reliability and a certain elegance to the table. The G Pro X TKL Lightspeed doesn’t come cheap, and when you stack it against others in its class, the cost-benefit analysis can get a bit tricky. Is the premium worth it for the wireless convenience and the build quality, or could your dollars go further with a different brand?

In the end, choosing the Logitech G Pro X TKL Lightspeed over its competitors comes down to what you value most in your gaming setup. If a reliable, no-fuss wireless connection, top-notch build quality, and a design that won’t clutter your desk are high on your list, it’s a worthy contender. But if your heart desires the cutting-edge of customization and innovation, you might find yourself looking around a bit more. It’s a tight race, and the G Pro X TKL Lightspeed earns its place at the starting line.

Should You Buy Logitech G Pro X TKL Lightspeed?

From its sleek design and robust build to its impressive performance and customization options, this keyboard has a lot going for it. Sure, it might not be the undisputed champion in every single category when stacked against the competition, but it brings enough to the table to make a strong case for itself. If you value a clean, minimalist design without sacrificing performance, the G Pro X TKL Lightspeed is a contender worth considering. Its wireless connectivity is good, ensuring you’re always in the game without any lag holding you back. Plus, the inclusion of PBT keycaps and a sturdy carry case sweeten the deal, making it a durable choice for gamers on the go.

However, it’s not without its drawbacks. The lack of hot-swappable switches and sound-dampening features might leave the enthusiasts wanting more, especially considering the keyboard’s price point. And while its customization options are impressive, especially with the user-friendly Logitech G Hub software, some may find the competition offers a bit more flexibility and innovation. At the end of the day, whether this Logitech keyboard is the right choice for you depends on what you prioritize. If a balance of efficiency, aesthetics, and build quality tops your list, then it’s a fantastic pick. But if you’re after the ultimate in keyboard tech and customization, it might be worth exploring other options too.

So, who’s the G Pro X TKL Lightspeed for? It’s for the gamers who appreciate a blend of style and substance. It’s for professionals who need reliability and responsiveness. And it’s for travelers who demand durability without compromising on performance. In a market filled with options, the Logitech G Pro X TKL Lightspeed stands out as a solid, if not perfect, choice for those who know what they want and value the Logitech pedigree.

When I first heard about the major changes coming to this iconic Asus ROG Zephyrus G14, I was a tad nervous. New implementations can be daunting, right? Especially when it’s about one of your all-time favorite gaming laptops. I’ve had the pleasure of experiencing every iteration of the G14 over the years, and each one has left me more impressed than the last. These compact gaming rigs have always had a special place in my heart.

So, you can imagine my reaction to the complete redesign, the decision to exclude RTX 4080 and RTX 4090 options, and the introduction of a brand new screen type. Yes, I was practically clutching my pearls during the CES announcements. But after spending a few days with the latest model, I’m here to tell you – my worries were unfounded. The updates to the G14 are absolutely stellar. Mini LED is out, and OLED has made its special entrance, bringing the ROG Zephyrus G14 firmly into the spotlight as one of the best gaming laptops currently available in the market. Whether you’re a gamer, a creator, or just someone who appreciates top-quality tech, there’s plenty to get excited about with this latest offering from Asus.

Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 (2024) First Impressions

You know that feeling when you unbox a new gadget, and there’s this electric buzz in the air? That’s exactly what it was like. From the get-go, it’s clear that Asus isn’t playing around with this revamped look. They’ve taken the G14, a laptop already known for its compact power, and somehow made it even more impressive. There is a flashy, programmable LED on the laptop’s lid that just screams modern and cool. It’s like Asus took the concept of “sleek” and dialed it up to eleven. Holding it in my hands, it’s incredibly light but promising powerhouse performance.

The switch from Mini LED to OLED display technology is immediately noticeable. The colors pop in a way that’s hard to describe — vibrant, rich, and utterly captivating. Watching just the boot-up animations felt like a mini cinematic experience. For the appearance, it’s more refined, with a sleek diagonal stripe across the back that lights up with mini LEDs for an extra touch of flair. There’s a solidity to the Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 that reassures you of its premium status. The main baseplate is unyielding, and while the lid has a bit of give, it’s among the sturdiest I’ve come across. Furthermore, opening the laptop with one hand is smooth as butter, thanks to a well-designed hinge that also smartly diverts hot air away from the screen.

In these first impressions, it’s clear that Asus has taken the Zephyrus G14 (2024) beyond just gaming. The aesthetic choices, the build quality, and the commitment to pushing the envelope with display technology all signal a laptop that’s not just about gaming prowess but also about setting a new standard for what a compact, powerful laptop can be.

Design and Build

The design of the 2024 Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 has got a luxury makeover.

The moment you lay eyes on it, it’s clear that Asus wasn’t just thinking about performance; they were thinking about making a statement. First up is the overall design – the laptop has managed to slim down without losing its soul. Moving away from the chunkier look required for the beefier graphics cards, the G14 now sports a more streamlined, ultralight profile. This isn’t just about aesthetics, though; it’s a game-changer for portability. Suddenly, you’ve got a gaming laptop that doesn’t feel like a workout to carry around. Weighing just 3.31 pounds, it’s like Asus has performed some sort of magic trick, making the heavyweight performance feel featherlight in your backpack.

The aesthetic overhaul is something to behold. Gone is the dotted LED matrix of previous models, replaced with a sleek, glossy diagonal stripe across the back of the lid. This stripe isn’t just for show, though—it’s functional, lighting up with 28 mini LEDs that add a touch of personal flair. It’s a more mature, refined look that says, “I’m serious about my gaming and my style.” And the comparison to a MacBook isn’t far off; the unibody CNC-milled aluminum chassis gives it that premium, luxurious feel that’s hard to find in the gaming laptop arena.

Asus has also knocked it out of the park in the laptop’s build. The main baseplate is rock solid – I gave it the old college try, pushing and prodding to see if I could find any flex, and it didn’t budge an inch. The lid does have a bit of flexibility, but it’s among the most robust I’ve tested, reassuring you that this gaming machine can handle a bit of travel. Moreover, opening the laptop is a breeze, thanks to a hinge that’s both smooth and cleverly designed to channel hot air away from the screen, ensuring your display stays cool during long gaming sessions.

Moreover, Asus made a tough call by ditching the beloved drop hinge for a more unified design, sacrificing the keyboard rise that many of us loved. But, in my opinion, it’s a trade-off worth making. The new design looks more cohesive, more streamlined, and just as comfortable to use, even without the keyboard tilt. In essence, the design and build of the 2024 Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 reflect a bold step forward. Asus has managed to refine the gaming laptop, blending performance with luxury in a package that’s as pleasing to the eye as it is powerful under the hood. It’s a testament to the idea that you can have it all—portability, power, and panache.

Display

When I first heard that Asus was ditching the Mini LED for an OLED panel, I was intrigued but also a tad skeptical. Could it really make that much of a difference? It absolutely does. The moment you boot up this laptop, the OLED screen makes its presence known. We’re talking about colors that pop off the screen, blacks that are so deep they feel like you could fall into them, and a level of detail that makes everything from gaming to browsing a feast for the eyes.

Asus ROG Zephyrus G14's OLED is a total showstopper.

The display sports a ‘3K’ resolution (2880 x 1800), which is a sweet spot if you ask me. It strikes the perfect balance between sharpness and performance, making sure that everything looks crisp without putting unnecessary strain on the hardware. Whether it’s the sun-dappled streets of Assassin’s Creed or the intense battles of Call of Duty, games look stunning on this screen. And it’s not just games; even mundane tasks like scrolling through web pages or watching videos feel more solid.

The OLED panel boasts super fast response times, making it a great fit for gaming. There’s no smearing or ghosting, just smooth, fluid motion that keeps up with the action, no matter how frantic. Further, the incredible contrast ratio means the dark scenes in games and movies have more depth and nuance. I was also impressed by the viewing angles. You know how sometimes you adjust your screen and suddenly the colors look washed out or the contrast goes wonky? Not an issue here. The ROG Zephyrus G14’s display maintains its integrity no matter where you’re viewing it from, which is great if you’re showing off something on your screen to a friend or working with the laptop on your lap.

Let’s not forget the impact this display has on creative work. For those who dabble in photo or video editing, the color accuracy and detail offered by the OLED panel are great. You can feel like seeing your work in a new light, literally. Every hue is rendered with precision, making it easier to get your edits just right. Overall, the display on the 2024 Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 is nothing short of spectacular. It’s a pivotal feature that elevates the laptop from being just a great gaming machine to a versatile device that’s as much a joy for content creation as it is for gaming.

Keyboard and Connectivity

You know how sometimes you type on a laptop and it feels like you’re just mashing your fingers against a flat surface? Not the case here. The G14’s membrane-switch keyboard is a delight. There’s a surprising amount of travel that makes typing feel more substantial than you’d expect. It’s got a nice bounce to it, and a pleasant soft-touch surface, and the keycaps are big and easy to hit, reducing typos and increasing speed. It’s one of those keyboards that you can type on for hours without feeling fatigued, which is a big win in my book.

For the gamers out there, you might be thinking, “But can it handle a frantic gaming session?” And while it’s true that for the most hardcore gaming, you might want to hook up an external keyboard, the Asus G14’s built-in one still holds up pretty well for casual to moderate play. The response is snappy, and the layout is intuitive, so you’re not going to be fumbling around trying to find the right keys mid-game.

One thing I appreciate is how Asus handled the backlighting. It’s not just about looking cool (though it does have a subtle, understated aesthetic that I personally love); it’s about visibility. The secondary functions on the keys are lit well enough to be easily seen in the dark, which is very important if you’re like me and enjoy late-night gaming or coding sessions. Furthermore, the keyboard stays cool, even when the laptop is working hard, which is a nice touch.

The G14 doesn’t just excel in typing and gaming; it’s designed with practicality in mind. For instance, the absence of Thunderbolt (due to it being an AMD-based system) might seem like a downside at first. But Asus compensates with a USB4 USB-C port alongside a USB 3.2, both clearly labeled with their respective speeds (40Gbps and 10Gbps). It’s a small detail, but it shows Asus’s attention to what users need: clear, straightforward connectivity options without the guesswork.

The port selection overall is pretty generous for a laptop of this size. You’ve got enough variety and spacing to connect your essential peripherals without any hassle. Whether it’s gaming mice, external drives, or a drawing tablet, you’re covered. And that kind of thoughtfulness extends throughout the laptop’s design. It’s all about making the G14 not just a tool for gaming or work, but a nice suitable part of your digital life.

Performance

After all, what’s a gaming laptop worth if it can’t deliver when the chips are down? With the 2024 Asus ROG Zephyrus G14, there’s a lot to unpack and it’s pretty darn impressive.

First up, the engine room of this beast: the AMD Ryzen 9 8945HS processor, paired with options for an RTX 4050, RTX 4060, or the RTX 4070 GPU. This combo is like the dream team of laptop performance, offering a smooth performance whether you’re gaming, creating, or just streaming your favorite shows. The Ryzen 9 chip is an iterative upgrade over its predecessor, which means you’re getting all the latest improvements without any unnecessary overhauls that could complicate things.

Now, I know what some of you might be thinking. “But where are the RTX 4080 and 4090 options?” And it’s true, those aren’t on the table this time around. But after spending some quality time with the G14, especially the RTX 4070 model, I’m not missing them. The performance here is so well-balanced, so finely tuned, that it feels like the perfect fit for this notebook’s ethos. You’re getting incredible power that’s more than sufficient for today’s titles, all while keeping things sleek, portable, and not sounding like a jet engine.

Gaming on the G14 is a joy; those high-end titles you’ve been itching to play can run smoothly, with beautiful graphics and fps that keep everything feeling fluid and responsive. And thanks to the OLED display’s gorgeous visuals, every game feels a bit more immersive, a bit more real. Other than playing games, the ROG Zephyrus G14 shines as a creation tool as well, thanks to its Nvidia Studio driver support. Video editing, 3D modeling, graphic design — the laptop handles these tasks with ease, making it a versatile choice for creators of all stripes. The combination of hardware and software is optimized not just for performance, but for creativity too.

In terms of performance trade-offs, sure, you might find laptops with bigger GPUs or more raw power. But the G14 isn’t just about maxing out spec sheets. It’s about delivering a balanced, enjoyable experience across gaming, work, and play and in that regard, it excels. So, to wrap up, the 2024 Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 is a performance powerhouse that doesn’t compromise on what makes it special. It’s a testament to the idea that you can have a sleek, portable laptop that still delivers when it matters most.

Battery Life and Power Management

Let’s talk about something that often gets glossed over when we look at gaming laptops: battery life and power management. What’s the point of having a super portable laptop if you’re tethered to a power outlet all day? The 2024 Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 brings some interesting points to the table in this department.

The battery life and power management of the 2024 Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 are impressive.
Image: Jarrod’sTech/YouTube

In the realm of gaming laptops, where powerful internals often mean you’re watching the battery drain faster than a bathtub with the plug pulled, the G14 manages to hold its own. This is no small feat, especially considering the powerful hardware configurations under the hood. In real-world use — a mix of browsing, streaming, and some light gaming — the G14 can comfortably get you through a workday without reaching for the charger. Now, if you’re planning on running demanding games unplugged, expect that battery life to shorten, but that’s par for the course with any gaming laptop.

What really sets the G14 apart is its smart power management. Asus has baked in some clever tech to ensure you’re getting the most out of your battery without compromising performance. The laptop automatically adjusts its power profile based on what you’re doing, so you’re not burning through the battery while reading an article or composing an email. But when it’s game time, the G14 ramps up, ensuring you’ve got all the power you need to enter into your favorite virtual worlds.

One feature I appreciate is the ability to switch between power profiles manually. You’ve got options ranging from Silent to Turbo, giving you control over the laptop’s performance and fan noise. This is especially handy if you’re working in a quiet environment or don’t need full power for less demanding tasks. You can game on battery, but as with any gaming notebook, there’s a trade-off. The G14 smartly dials back performance to extend battery life, which means you won’t be getting the same framerates as you would while plugged in. However, for casual gaming or if you’re away from a power source and need your gaming fix, it’s more than capable.

Software and Features

Instead of the standard Game Ready driver, the G14 is equipped with Nvidia’s Studio driver right out of the box, which is optimized for creative apps. This means better performance and stability in software like Adobe Premiere, Photoshop, and more. And for the gamers? Don’t worry; switching to the drivers for gaming is just a few clicks away, giving you the best of both worlds.

ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 (2024)'s smart and user-friendly software options.
Image: Jarrod’sTech/YouTube

Speaking of customization, the LED matrix on the lid of the G14 deserves a mention. It’s not just a cool party trick; it’s a fully programmable canvas that lets you express your personal style or show off custom animations and notifications. It’s these kinds of features that boost the ROG Zephyrus G14 from merely a tool to something that feels personal and fun to use. And let’s not forget about the Advanced Optimus feature, it allows you to switch between the integrated and discrete GPUs without needing to reboot, which is great for managing battery life or optimizing performance on the fly.

The Armoury Crate software is supposed to be the control panel for gamers, a sort of mission control for everything your laptop can do. But it feels a bit like it’s trying to be a jack-of-all-trades, covering a whole range of Asus models without really zeroing in on the unique features of the G14 itself. For instance, you’ve got the options to tweak, but sometimes you’re left scratching your head because changing them doesn’t seem to do anything, or worse, it messes with something else. The Asus G14 steps into the modern era with Windows’ new Dynamic Lighting control, but it also hangs on to Asus’ system. And while the laptop boasts RGB lighting, it’s for the complete keyboard instead offering more nuanced zone or per-key customization.

For the media professionals or editors out there, the software setup can feel a bit like a missed opportunity. The laptop at its heart, is aiming to be a creator’s dream machine, but finding the color profiles you need is like looking for a needle in a haystack. They’re tucked away in a dropdown menu that feels like an afterthought, overshadowed by GameVisual presets geared more towards gaming and casual use. And let’s not get started on the gamma adjustments. With an OLED screen that delivers those deliciously deep blacks, managing shadow detail is key. But again, digging into those settings to prevent dark areas from turning into a black void is more complicated than it needs to be.

Verdict

For the majority of us gaming mortals who aren’t always pushing the graphical envelope to the max, stepping back to snag that older model with RTX 4090 might not be the power move we think it is. The 2024 model, with its RTX 4070, is no slouch. Seriously, it’s got the chops to breeze through the current gaming hits and will likely keep you in the game for rounds to come without breaking a sweat. And if you’re cool with not always maxing out the settings or you’re into leveraging DLSS to boost your performance, then you’re golden.

It’s not just about the numbers game with framerates, this gaming rig is sleek, not weighing you down, and features a display that turns heads. So, when you weigh losing maybe a few fps in some games against the sheer joy of using this beautifully designed machine that still hits triple-digit frames per second, it’s kind of a no-brainer. You’re getting so much goodness here that a slight dip in numbers becomes something most of us will hardly notice.

But what really seals the deal for me is the attention to detail. The programmable LED matrix, the comfortable and responsive keyboard, the thoughtful port selection, and that gorgeous screen — it’s these things that add up to make the machine more than just a laptop. It’s a companion for the road, the cafe, or the comfort of your couch. Sure, it’s not the cheapest option out there, and if you’re looking for the absolute max in gaming performance, there are beefier (and bulkier) machines that might fit the bill. But the Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 isn’t just about raw power; it’s here delivering high-quality productivity in a package that’s hard to beat in terms of portability, style, and overall quality.
